Agreed....first one was easy and thought I had the hook, but then it took a turn for the worse. Very good puzzle though, I enjoyed getting my butt kicked on this one.

Your first one may have been my last one. Was nice to end on an up note

Fun puzzle!

It's really a great feeling getting the "gimmick" early on. Fun WP! I still haven't figured out who co-authored it with Garrybl.

Loved this one! Even the one I messed up a bit was a lot of fun.

The other culprit, by the way, is Slicko.

NINE moves and you "messed up a bit"??!! I'm not sure we're any longer on speaking terms.

Sniff...

Oops, bad wording. I sure don't want you mad at me, Asor! I had a pink screen on the one particular puzzle, so it seemed like a "mess up" at the time.

For some strange reason, I've always done well on Barry's pun WPs. Can't explain it.

That said, I would be willing to bet I don't finish first. There are some real smart folks who haven't taken the WP yet.

All is forgiven, DG! Here's hoping your score retains the #1 position

Though I see those smartypants did knock me to #11.

Again.

I thought I might be stuck on my first puzzle until tomorrow morning's WP began. There is a long, long way between "Astrud Mistaken for a Modernist" ("Chagall from Ipanema") and "Danny and the Nighthawks" ("At the Hopper"). I was not, nor have I ever been, on a first name basis with Astrud Gilberto. In fact, until about 45 minutes ago, I couldn't spell "Ipanema."

I'm not complaining, though. I love the art ones, and I did well, even if Anne -- as usual -- swept in after 8 EST and bumped me down a spot.

The question is: Did she shove Dave out of first?

I did lousy, as I always do on the punny WPs, but I certainly learned a lot!

Hope we didn't rattle too many brains with this one and thanks for the nice comments. We actually were working on something else but I so liked his Paint it Braque that I asked if we could go more with that - and he said sure. It is always great working with Barry - and this one was particularly fun to put together.

I really enjoyed this puzzle, too. I don't always do well on short puny ones. Good job, guys!!

Sorry about coming in late. . .

See, Asor, I was right! I knew someone would sneak into that top spot!

Don't know for sure, but it sure looks like it was Anne. Why am I not surprised?

Chagall from Ipanema was the last one we wrote.
I ttied for puns on Carlos Jobim and Astrud Gilberto and could not think of anything witty. So I agree that it WAs harder than we would have liked -- but the pun was just too much to resist.

If anyone can do better (Chagall is not easy to sum up in 1/2 words!) now is your chance!

Barry

Whaaaa??! I checked in at 7:45 and you still reigned supreme (hence my congratulatory gesture). Ah well, you're still #1 in my book!

Barry,
Aw, I didn't get that great one...maybe I'd have guessed it. Please post them all?

Here are the ideas we were kicking about...you now probably know more about the ways our minds work than you would want to.

Pop Art

Chagall from Ipanema
Kahlo Dali?
Hats off to Lowry
You were made Vermeer
Redundant Cubist for a clue for Paint it Braque
Swiss Speed for Gris Lightning ?
Monet Monet (Billy's lilies)
Rocket Manet (Elton's impression) or Coat of Manet colors (Dolly goes to Egypt)
Van Gogh your own Way (Starry Mac)
At the Hopper (Danny and the Nighthawks)
Sweet Homer Alabama (Lynyrdscapes)
Paint it Braque
Schiele never be me (Britney's expressionist )
Hello Dali (Louis louie)
The tracks of matisse (Smoky post impressionist)

Nope, Asor, Anne was the winner in 8 moves. She finished at 8:10, so you didn't see her score.

Which reminds me that a nice fix would be to allow us to see the previous games final standings for at least a while after that game finished.

Schiele makes me feel much better about Chagall. With my vast knowledge of Britney tunes, I'd still be working on that puzzle.

Might I humbly suggest The Zombies's "Time of the Cezanne"
OK Go's "Here It Gaugain"
Avril Lavigne's "O'Keefe Holding on"
"Istanbul (Not Constable)" by whomever wrote that
Kelly Clarkson's "Picasso You"
Starland Vocal Band's "Afternoon Van Dyke"
"Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" from, of course, The Beatles (no pun)
And, alternatively, Smoky Robinson's "Toulouse-Lautrec of My Tears"

Ouch. It's obvious why I take the WPs instead of writing them.

Thanks for the ideas; this theme obviously has legs; i have a variant on it coming out next month i think (not using any odf these great suggestions though)

But please lets have some more puns -- we haven't had a good open competition like this for a long while!

Dusty Springfield's 'Wishing and Holbein' was always one of my favorites.

Picassolo Mio?
Rembrandty (you're a fine girl)?

Munchained Melody?

Delaney and Bonnie's "Frida People"
Led Zeppelin's "Gauguin to California"
Jimmy Buffet's "Magritterville"
Michael Schenker's "Rockwell Never Die"
Grieg's "Warhol of the Mountain King"
Eddie Cantor's "Escher, That's My Baby"

Daveguth thse were far too good to waste on us instead of in a WP.
Magritterville indeed!

It will be hard to beat those...won't it?

Kandinsky's Room by Bruce Springsteen
Gainsborough Fair by Simon and Garfunkel
And best of all, Iron Butterfly's In A Gadda Da Vinci.

Come to think of it, didn't the Sex Pistols have an album, Never Mind the Pollocks?

I think the winner hands down is In A Gadda Da Vinci! I'm having visions of psychedelic Mona Lisas to the sound of the famous drum solo.

That's the one artist that seemed obvious ("The" for "Da"), but I was just stumped ("Vinci" = "Funky"? "Da Vinci Chicken"? NOT!!!).

Great one, Ken!!!
