FINALLY ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

As you may have noticed, I trashed the "Chat Box" thing last week. It was terrible.

The time is now near to unveil A REAL CHAT window - Sploofus' 1st!

It is a real time, popup chat window with no page refreshes, no ads, etc.

Will there only be one floating shout to deal with and not 3 of them?

I thought Sploofus was kind of a Big Deal with 3 chats going!

So you can get a popup message right in the middle of a word round? Cool.

Good thing...

I was getting confused with all that shifting around from screen to screen

Thanks Sploof!

Perhaps I should clarify:

YOU have to click a link to "Pop-up" the chat window. Coming soon.

Click the "SploofTALK" link in the upper right hand corner of the screen. It will pop open a new window so you may need to modify your pop-up blocker settings. The new chat system utilizes heavy JavaScript, so you will also need a very recent web browser such as Firefox 1.5 from http://www.mozilla.com/ with JavaScript enabled.

What would be great is if some of the settings could be remembered on a machine, such as time zone and text color. Can any of that be scripted in?

OK - I am on a mac, using Safari, and when I clicked SploofTALK I got a side frame with a "not found" message, like it was trying to find the old chat...

I didn't get the new chat until I turned off my pop-up blocker!

Now I can't seem to get rid of the extra frame... I 'll have to see what happens when I quit and restart the program.

As the original TechnoTwit, either I don't know how to work the new Chat, or maybe I haven't the right stuff installed, but with the window up and the list of those online there, nothing else seems to happen?
I hope the normal Chat now on 'BBS' (what DOES that stand for!) ain't going to be discontinued?

I must be TechnoTwit #2. I am also clueless about what to do after opening the SploofTALK! page. Is it possible to get instructions written VERY SLOWLY for those of us who are not up (or down, in the current vernacular) with the concept. THANKS.

In order to participate in the chat, it is just necessary to type in the long rectangular, enclosed space at the bottom of the page. I was a little confused at first, too, because the cursor doesn't show up there.I clicked in the space and typed and, miraculously, my words appeared then I clicked on "OK" and it appeared in the box above.

Type what?
Just start a conversation?
Is there any 'library' of conversations from which to select, or just the one 'window' where everyone joins in ad hoc?

OK, I think I've put a message up.
Any other TechnoTwits want to join me to see what xxxxx happens next!

Well, the message was there but now it's disappeared!
Think I'll wait for the instruction book!

I think BBS stands for Bulletin Board something (Sploofus? maybe). This way of communicating has never really been a chat room since those are generally live...when you post something and then people stop by and look at it at their leisure, and maybe post a note themselves...that is a virtual bulletin board. This should have always been called a BB.

As for the new chat feature - be sure your pop-up blocker is OFF, then click on the link at the top right of the screen (just under your welcome message). A blue box shows up in a new window and you can type at the bottom as described by someone above me.

When I click on SploofTALK, it opens the red window on the left, with a really hard to read message, which says: Not Found - Requested Documents Was Not On This Server" Below that is: Server at Sploofus.com - I have Firefox and went into tools to allow popups on this site. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Marilyn...

Okay, something's changed because I now get the Splooftalk window up - but as far as I can see it's going to have the same problem I always had with the 'shout' windows - there's no way to scroll back and see what the original comment/question was that the current conversation is talking about!

At least, the window just opened with a single comment in view, something about logging out, and no way that I could see to find out what that comment was answering!

I don't actually see how you can use it with sploofus anyway, since as soon as you click anywhere in sploofus itself the splooftalk window is hidden!

Beryl ... Click on History, and you'll see what the current topic of conversation is.

Also, everyone, try holding down your control key (CTRL) to bypass your popup blocker and see if that helps!

Katy
