Has Gerdieducks gone too or has he just changed his name?

Gerdieducks is gone and he went with a bang. On saturday, he wrote a post about what he thought about Sploofus's players and the conspiracy led against him by Scrabq, Mitchy, Maurlin and yourself (few sploofusers must have read the threads). He explained why Frankielaine was gone. His six threads were deleted quickly after being posted.

That's interesting... wish I knew what that was, especially as I've barely been on Sploofus for the past month!...
... but I think he has just changed his name and started again and I think Frankielaine has too!

Sadly, this is true. I heard about the posts from Gerdieducks through the Sploofus grapevine. In fact a fellow Sploofuser had shared some of the content of the posts with me. When I logged on to finish reading the posts, none were to be found, obviously deleted by an editor in one fell swoop.

I concur those two monopolized the board for several weeks, much to the chagrin of the afore mentioned quiz authors. Now with Frankielane and Gerdieducks gone, those complaining authors can once again regain their monopolization of the board, as they had done previously for months unending. There were cries and demands from those authors in the thread to Justin for the implemention of a control element. Control to reduce the number of quizzes which could be released from Frankielane and Gerdieducks, both of whom I believe would have run their course. I also think those two were in a one on one competition and not intentionally attempting to dethrone the aforementioned quiz authors. I'm certain we will never again read of such a request for a control factor.

I've stated this before, but I will state it again. I've stopped writing quizzes on a regular basis because the jockeying for position aspect, which made for friendly competition, ceased. There can be no jockeying for position as long as the monopolization by a select group of authors continues.

Please state your explanation, justifications and tongue lashings within this thread and not via PM's as occurred after my input to the original complaining thread. I will not read any of those received.

If you like sploofus and what it has to offer, there is no reason for leaving it. According to Gerdieducks, Frankielane left because of a disagreement with an editor, I remember that another quiz writer recently left for a similar reason. I had some disagreements with editors and I did not leave. For Gerdieducks, he made a mistake by leaving, there is room for everybody here.

I read his messages and they weren't just about quiz authorship - he hinted that other things were "rotten in the state of Denmark". It's given me pause for thought, and perhaps I'm not alone.

I read some of the posts.....I guess what bothered me the MOST was the fact that he/she had the audacity to say that people were "cheating" in word rounds and word matches. If you have been around for ANY time at all, you will know that this has been raked over the coals before. It is absolutely ludicrous that anyone could cheat in those. It IS possible to get a fluke and even that certainly cannot be counted as "cheating". As for the prolific writing of quizzes, I certainly don't understand why everyone got their panties in a wad over that either. I never knew there was a quota for heavens sakes. NO ONE has to take the quizzes. I would like to see a kinder and gentler Sploofus and for everyone to stop picking on each other. I have gotten nasty messages because of a post I made in Shout.......that I was tired of the site not being stable. Now does that sound like I was attacking someone? The whole thing has been blown out of proportion as far as I am concerned. I will state also, that I don't want any more nasty messages....if you can't say it out in the open....don't say it at all. Take a deep breath and play nicely and treat people the way you would like to be treated. Things are hard to decipher sometimes here because you can't see the person, you don't know them well, or you took something the wrong way. Please don't be so quick to pounce and cause ill feelings........that is one of the reasons we lost folks in the past year. KINDNESS does work. Try it.

My point was that perhaps it's time for the points (or accusations) to be addressed as well as being deleted. I don't spend a lot of my time on this site, but I saw the posts. I'm sure I won't be alone. I'm happy to accept that I'm middle of the road when it comes to games, but do try to improve on my scores. Over my years here I've seen the flukes on many occasions, and I've seen many people being congratulated on them. I'd rather like to know what they are and why they happen.

Too bad they left. I liked them both and wished all along they'd met a friendlier reception.

Chender, flukes are timer mistakes similar to the ones we sometimes see when we answer daily questions and the timer keeps running, only in WR/WP, they affect the time of the round by subtracting time. It's pretty good odds that any single digit time is a fluke (though I don't doubt that Slicko can do it without the glitch ). Old hands can recognize when they get them by a lag after the game is started before the words appear; the length of the lag subtract. I have it on extremely good authority that a few people on certain computers can trigger them on purpose.

The congrats are for being lucky, but you have to be good enough to take advantage of it, because a 9-answer round won't get you squat even in single digits.

Gerdieducks wrote a number of literature based quizzes which I enjoyed taking. I'm sorry he/she has left.

I could understand why anyone would want to leave Sploofus for good.
However, I don't know why anyone would bother to come back under a different name.
They would have to start all over again from a level one. Afterall, Sploofus is just a web site
with a bunch of names on a screen. It's not like everyone are neighbors, co-workers,etc.
To start all over again just because of a few criticizing remarks from names on a screen seems like
a waist of time and effort, and mostly a mental problem.
Oh well, to each their own.

As I've mentioned before- Sploofus is diminished by regular players leaving for non-monetary reasons.
Now that there are many new paying members added since the recent membership drive- - let's try to rebuild the "esprit de corps."

That is too bad. For me Sploofus is a nice diversion and something to show my creative mind. To quote a line from the movie "Eight Men Out"," I couldn't give that up, not for nothing." I t has it s faults like everything else in life, but it has seen me through some dark days and brightened up some other ones.

recently I posted a comment that I didn't have any problems with the editors editing my quizzes and I received a nasty, rude uncalled for response from a sploofuser, she is now blocked from sending me messages. This type of behavior is uncalled for and it ruins people wanting to have fun and or write quizes, she also mentioned another sploofuser of whom I had blocked prior and I quess they were in cahootes(sp). As the saying goes,"if you can't say something nice don't say it at all".As I guess you've noted I haven't written any quizzes or kerplunks for a while, maybe I'll change my mind and do some or maybe I will not renew my membership.buchanan

Please opt for doing quizzes. You see, if you do not renew your membership, "they" win. Please don't let them win.

Hi Buchanan! We're not all like the person who sent you a nasty e-mail. I'll take some of your quizzes tomorrow (I'm out today) to balance things up a bit. I hope that encourages you to stay

I'm a little perplexed that some seem to be upset with those of us who believed that two people having 80% or more of the new quiz list at all times was a problem. It is a shame that FrankieLaine and Gerdieducks didn't back off and decide to tone it down to a few per day. That would have been the mature way to handle things. Instead they chose to take their ball and go home.

Some of us enjoy writing quizzes and like for them to have the opportunity to be seen for more than a couple hours. I don't think that is unreasonable. I didn't really understand the one post that said something snarky about how now those who dominated the quiz board before could have it back. I can only speak for myself, but I don't think it was about monthly points and the quiz authors leader board. I think a "per day" limit would be a good thing and balance the opportunity for some who may want to compete on quantity (they could bag their limit daily) and those who might publish one a day or every few days or every week or every month. For a while, the new quiz board was moving so fast that works in popular categories were being bumped off with single-digit attempts. Personally, I don't think that is a positive for quiz authors or quiz takers.

It is a shame these two individuals could not choose to back off a little and play well with others. If the only choices were jam the board or leave, then they made the right decision.

Thanks for your comments Edgycater. I agree with what you said. I also am amazed by the one post which made a comment I felt was directed at myself and another player.
I have been a member since February 2008 and in that time have written just over 700 quizzes, less than one per day.
I write the quizzes as a way of improving my own knowledge and hopefully improving the knowledge of others. For me I don't care about the points. I have 44 wager tokens and 118 showdown tokens. I haven't used any of them and am probably unlikely to.

For me the whole Gerdieducks / Frankielaine72 episode really spoiled my Sploofus experience and has made me rethink what I would like to do in regards to writing quizzes. If I can't write a good quiz and have other people enjoy taking them, then I don't really want to write them at all.

So I chose to back off writing quizzes regardless of what Frankielaine and Gerdieducks chose to do.
I think that this past episode should serve as a lesson to the powers that be at Sploofus to create a system that is fair for all at each level; free member, gold or platinum.
As for Gerdieducks and Frankielaine72 I wish them well and hope they are happy in whatever new endeavours they have.

Most of the production quizzes added little to the site and blocked the time on the main index page for the artistic quizzes. When someone produces a really good quiz, they deserve to have a chance at learning it is popular.

Justin re-invented the "most popular index page" and since no production quizzes made it, it was not possible for the two "assembly-line writers" to get to the Leaderboards for Quiz Authors. Do you think that re-invention had an influence?

When those two were mass-producing quizzes, they were 1 and 2 on the Author leaderboard.

Kathy, please continue writing quizzes. I've also enjoyed your quizzes, even though I didn't always do well on them. They have been well though-out and researched. Much unlike the "production line" quizzes we've seen recently.
