MAY 18TH

Okay, who called the protector would be Jack? Oh, that's right. It was me. LOL Just kidding. It was kinda the consensus. I was telling my hubby about some friends of mine thought it would be Hurley and he suggested that the others may end up staying to protect Jack. We shall see...

I thought it was interesting - Jacob's explanation for why Kate's name was marked off.

Ben. You just can never tell what that crazy SOB is gonna do! Do you think he's really with Old Smokey or does he have some save-Ben-at-all-costs scheme that would involve a double-cross? Every time I start to like him and understand his motivations, he goes and acts completely mean and insane. One of my favorite love-to-hate characters of all time, though.

I was really disappointed in Ben. Comparing the sideways scenes (why are they there and will they somehow merge with the island scenes?) he is such a nice guy but in some ways similar to the Ben of the island, except apparently consistently good. What a kick to see Danielle again and Ana Lucia.

Desmond is apparently trying to get all the Oceanic Six (or so, together), to do...what? On island time, Widmore is already dead. And in the sideways world Desmond works for Widmore. However, it was Hurley's money that bribed the cop.

Will they merge with island time and some how "undead" the people who died on the island?

When Jacob said the candidates were lonely and flawed, I don't see the purpose of Jack remaining by himself on the island to protect the light. He would still be lonely. And if he figures out a way to kill Smokey, why would the light need protecting? No one seems to know how to find it except Jacob, and now Jack.

The whole thing is still somewhat bizarre to me.

I'm really enjoying the "piecing together" of the threads but, Jack being the protector did not surprise me. What did surprise me was Jacob's blase attitude toward it... "the job is yours, if you want it.. doesn't really matter which one of you I chose.. decide amongst yourselves" .. kind of dissapointed me as I was under the impression that those people were candidates and the one who would eventually take the job would be "the chosen one" so to speak.. the one worthy of the job. I know, originally it was to be either Jacob or his brother, and Jacob didn't have the choice but instead was "chosen" by his fake mother but, I just really was looking forward to something more along the lines of destiny or worthiness.

Oh, and I'll say it again... I LOVE DESMOND!!! lmao

I love Desmond, too! What do you think will happen at the concert?

I guess they'll all be there.

Desmond is amazing. I think they will all be at the concert, but then what? I can't wait to see how it all comes together. I'm also going to be so sad to see it end. I'm also losing my other favorite show, 24.

At some point this summer, I'm going to conduct my own LOSTfest and watch all seasons on DVD from start to finish. I'm hoping once I know that endgame it will all make sense.

Hey Pepper.. I'm already on that path .. my daughter wants me to start watching Supernatural (which I haven't really been interested in but, everyone tells me it's a great show) so I told her I'd watch Supernatural if she watches Lost. Lost is first as Supernatural Season 1 is with her Dad.

We are on Ep.10(ish) of the first season.. funny to be watching both at once.. some of the things from season 1 actually ARE related to these last few shows and the recent references coincide with what happened back then. Pretty cool!

If you see things that you find relate to the current episode(s) go ahead and post. My memory isn't as sharp for details from six years ago as it is from six days ago.

I think for people who have followed this show from the beginning, these links to past shows are a big payoff and nice to know that there was an intentional story arc all along.

Still loving the show and all but I'm trying to figure out what Charles Widmore's main purpose in the storyline was all about. I know I don't remember everything from all the past seasons, but now he's dead and I can't figure out where he fits into the big scheme of the plot. Anybody got this part figured out?

I'm not exactly sure...

We know that he and Ben are enemies (so in my book that makes him good)
Ben blames him for the death of Alex because I think it's Widmore's goons who shot her, although Ben could have come out of the cabin to save her but he bluffed the guys and lost
Widmore didn't like Desmond when he was interested in Penny, but once he figured out that Desmond was immune to the electromagnetic core of the island, Desmond became valuable to Widmore.
Widmore lived on the island when he was a young man but was exiled. (Maybe he was like the early people who wanted the light source to use for his own nefarious ends.)
I think earlier we were led to believe that Widmore wanted control of the island for his own nefarious purposes. He did seem to know about the defenses needed to repel Smokey.

It does seem to be a hanging thread...

I wonder if he might not have been a "red herring." We focused so much attention on him in the past that we overlooked the true bad guy, Smokey. At the beginning of the show, Smokey was the monster everyone was afraid of, but as they got more involved in the "politics" of the island, he was forgotten and attention settled on either Ben or Widmore (or both) as being the real problem.

Not to get political as this is the wrong place for that, but it does point out that sometimes the politics is less important than the bigger picture.

Good point. BTW I have my recorder set for tonight (2 hrs.) and for Sunday (4 1/2 hours). Not sure that there will be any new information tonight, probably just a summary. And the first two hours tomorrow night I think will feature conversations with the cast. I'm looking forward to it and sad to see it end at the same time.

Last night's rerunning of the pilot was interesting the context of viewing it 6 seasons later. The captions were also very telling. I hope all of you saw it. It was a great setup for tonight.

Hey folks.. just to throw my 2 cents in.. I think Widmore's presence lately was just the vessel to get Desmond back to the island.
