Can anyone tell me why I would not be able to open Explorer, but Firefox works? It just started today.

First thing to do when odd-ball things like this happen is run a complete virus check on your computer.

Another thing to check - maybe IE is coming up very small or even off the screen. I've had that happen before. Do you see it in your task bar when you try to start it?

Assuming you're running XP - check your event viewer (under Administrator Tools) - see if there are any errors logged. Check all three event lists - Application, System and Security. Any errors show up when you try to start IE?

If nothing else works, you may have to restore Windows from backup or, if you don't have a good backup, reload Windows. A big hassle, I know - but that may be the only way you'll be able to get it back.

I would say forget about IE all together - but you pretty much need it running to get MS fixes.

Just some ideas.

If IE is your default browser go to tools-Internet options-programs -reset web settings and apply then to advanced and click Restore defaults. apply -ok. then restart your browser. If your home page has changed that could be a virus, spyware or even Hijacked. I agree with Jerrys. Scan your comp for viruses!

(assuming you have XP)
If you are opening it from a shortcut, right button click the shortcut, click on properties, choose the tab "shortcut", and make sure that it says either "normal window" or fullscreen. Almost all of mine say normal window.
If you are running from the start button, click on start and do the same thing to the name as above.
If you are running from the office toolbar see if you can run other icons.
Go to C:Program FilesInternet Explorer and see if you have the file ieexplore.exe ha ha.
What the other guys said.

I did the restore and it worked, however the home page changed to MSN. Ran a virus scan and it found spyware, but no virus. Seems to be working ok now...thanks a bunch!
