CURSES FOILED AGAIN WP

How appropriate a title for this puzzle.
Another villain bites the dust.

(You've not seen the last of me!)

Gary:

What do you recommend for maximum moustache twirlature? Waxed, or unwaxed?

What about cackling? What's the best way to develop a cackle that drips with evil? Is there some kind of gargle?

As you will see, I have a beard not a mustache.

My best line: 'Have some Madeira, m'dear'

Were these evenly split between fiction and non-fiction? I was really thrown to get the Gunpowder Plot after four cartoon and comic-book puzzles with a clue ("foiled at midnight") that was the only one that didn't clearly pinpoint the subject.

That's not a criticism, you understand. I liked the WP very much. But my sympathies to anyone who got four events from history and only one easy comic-book villains puzzle.

I was just the opposite. I started with the shoe bomber, and finished with Darkwing Duck's (who?) three oddly spelled nemeses.

Ken,
Glad it's nemeses and not nemesi, which sounds like an evil people of Star Trek!
I protest the comic book ones, as that was a "boy thing" when I was growing up. Didn't know any villains except the Joker right off, and didn't even know enough to google! Ann

While 'Darkwing Duck' was a staple diet of all of us.....

Now if you'd complained Guy Fawkes was anglocentric I'd understand -- but defend the choice on the basis that you Americans were all English once.

I'd have known him. I guess that since I can take a joke, they didn't Fawkes me.

Naw, around here in upstate NY we still put the "Guy" in a wheelbarrow or hang it from a tree, so that didn't present any problems!
