WHO'S CALLING

Being a non-American can catch you out. I learned a new abbreviation (just cost me four guesses but irked the heck out of me).
It would help to have a cell phone too I guess; failed that one too.

I'll call this a nice tutorial word puzzle from Pat.

Normally cell lingo is universal. Don't know what phrase you're talking about, but cell usage is higher in many other countries than the U.S. (mainly due to installing new wireless equipment rather than evolving over existing infrastructure.)

Nice job, Pat.

Call me obtuse...

"Okay, you're obtuse!"....

Could someone explain the theme to me when this is all over?

I'm so confused.

But Barry, I bet you lapped the field in getting the puzzle about the lead out of turn with zero letters.

Oh, wait. That was the "Who called?" WP. Never mind.

I think I got stuck on the same abbreviation as Barry but that aside, I thought it was an excellent puzzle
I enjoyed it, thanks Pat.

You must have a fancy one. Mine doesn't do much more than my landline.

Good advertising. I may have to go out and get one.

You and me, Dasfunk!

I finally figured out on my 4th puzzle this was about "other things" your cell phone does. In fact, I was kind of surprised when I saw that Barry had mentioned cell phone in his post above. But I guess it was so obvious (to everyone but Dasfunk and me) that it was all about cell phones that the editors didn't feel that comment needed to be deleted.

That said, I don't think "not getting" the theme really hurt my score. The puzzles, though a few were a bit tricky, pretty much stood on their own.

Fun puzzle.

The abbreviation I did not know was cdt as opposed to cst.
