SOME PRETTY AMAZING WR'S

I have just noticed a WR time of -0.09 secs. How can someone get a minus timing? I'm sure there is a good explanation for this but the time has been recorded by Sploofus for that particular WR. Has anybody any idea how somebody could reverse time?

Occasionally, the timing for the Word Rounds does that. It seems to be a glitch in the program and if Justin is around at the time, he'll usually correct it. Otherwise, the person who had performed this feat has to put up with the snide comments of the other players. They also get the fleeting satisfation of sitting on the top of the record page for a while.

My intention wasn't to be snidey about the player. I hope thats not the way I came across. I figured something was wrong with the program but thought that score was going to be recorded. Thanks for your response linenlady. I appreciate it.

Not at all, Kakman. I was being facetious about the fact that when someone gets a score like that, everyone else usually teases them. The more outrageous the score, the more raucous the ragging.

Actually if you watch the Shout! in WordRounds, most players who get a "fluke", as it is called, are congratulated by the other players. We know it happens now and then, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

There was a post somewhere that explained your time is the elapsed time from when you hit the "start" button to when you hit the "submit" button, MINUS the calculated load time for the WordRound quiz. Anytime you subtract, ther's a chance to get the negative number, since the load time could be false.

So, we live with flukes, but they are few and far between!

...and as Linenlady says, the teasing is good-natured!

There was a -39.0 second fluke a few days ago. I think that's the record.

Two of my first places have been flukes. At first I felt bad because I didn't rightly earn it, and took the points from a 1st place regular. But once you get the points and realize they'll be back atop the heap alot sooner than you it's easy to enjoy the moment.

Besides, what's not to enjoy about somebody finishing something before they started it.

My -$.02 worth,
Tim

Flukes happen for everyone sooner or later; the more you play the more you fluke. I think if it wasn't there it should be programmed in. Lots of times the possiblity of the fluke is the only reason to keep playing a round with a clutch of low teeners at the top and you're not one of 'em. It's the Sploofus equivalent of the Hail Mary pass. I enjoy mine when I'm lucky enough to get them and I salute anyone else who does. Frankly I suspect some of those low teeners are fluky but I'm not telling.

For every fluke I get, I get about fifty the other direction. I'm not about to complain.

Thanks for all your replies to this post. Perhaps I was over reacting to these fluky times and should have left things as they are. My problem is if I see something is wrong I have to stick my nose in and try and correct that wrong. Anyway thanks again for all your replies. Its appreciated.

Jimmy,

I got a really nice fluke yesterday, but nobody noticed because my real time would have been 42, not 22!

I had that -39.0, and while it was pretty cool, I felt bad cuz it wasn't deserved. My loading time was agonizingly long, and I groaned thinking how long my time would be, so it was really a mixed blessing! I never, ever get in the 'teens like some of the great players, so I appologise to all of you. Teresa
