KAUFMAN'S INTERNETSCAPADES WP

This was one of the few WP where I wished I had all 10. I'd never been to any of the sites given as clues, but now one of them has been added to my Favorites so I can return to it later. In 4 of the ones I had there was a short word I had to use lots of letters to figure out, but which fit perfectly when I finally came up with it.

Ken- please post all of the clues and WPs when time is up, so I can see other great sites.

Not that this should surprise any of us who have read ken's posts.

Fabulous until I wasted tons of letters--and got a red screen--due to a simple three-letter word. As Maurlin noted, it then ended up making perfect sense. Should have finished my java first

But definitely fun!

Enjoyed the quiz - but my one quibble is that one of the puzzles assumes information that is not really general knowledge, but rather, an insiders' joke that only some would know.

In-jokes are always well received by the in people, but there's a danger of parochialism in too many forays down that path. I'd prefer to see these edited out of WPs, but as usual, this is just an opinion, and one that quite probably doesn't represent the popular sentiment, anyway.

But I did honestly enjoy the quiz! Thanks!

Only quibble is yet more places for me to waste time - a couple great sites I never heard of - and then of course there was the obligatory Kaufmanesque puzzle.

I enjoyed it, but I do understand Dasfunk's point. It's worth a discussion once the WP is over.

Enjoyed all the ones I got, but didn't get the injoke one and feel very deprived. Hope you'll share all of them so I can bookmark a couple! Ann

Amen to that sentiment. I hope all of our website authors will list all of their phrases so we can visit the websites in a more leisurely fashion. Some appear to be extremely inviting.

Took me a long time, cause I had to visit and then bookmark several of the sites to revisit.

OK, I'm going to do this after consuming a half bottle of delicious Collioure (14.5% - ya know, those wines from good years are always high in alcohol content but I am a vintage freak - I invariably buy wines from good years when grapes are very ripe and ferment into high alcohol content) with my dinner of Rabbit Chimichurri and Rabbit Ailoli with Broccoli and Quinoa.

Well, maybe I should wait a while. I'm a touch high.

It doesn't help that the in-joke isn't easily obtainable with common letters.

Won't someone kindly divulge the "in joke"? I must not have gotten it--or perhaps I just can't recall it. Spill!

I believe the clue was "Sploofus.com" and the answer was something about "Includes one of the best Internet repositories for mollusk information." In my 2 1/2 years at this notice, I kind of remember some joking about mollusks, but I don't know much more than that.

That's the inside joke??
Play word rounds/ word matches and you can't avoid the darn things. References to Mollusks are made almost daily in shout, and I seem to recall references to them in other word puzzles.

And if you don't play WRs/WMs, or at least rarely look at the Shout box?

Personally, I struggled a little bit with it--largely because of the odd letters--but at least I had a clue where Ken was going. But I sure could see how a relative newcomer to Sploofus would be totally lost on that one. Seems like us veterans would have an automatic advantage when in-jokes are used.

Then again, inside references to Sploofus are not uncommon, and there's even the occasional surprise WP that tests knowledge of previous WPs. So you could also argue that those who pay attention to the goings-on at Sploofus deserve a little advantage.

Sometimes I get carried away. But what could I say about a site you're all familiar with? ...

Anyway, here's my ten for you all. I currently have them all bookmarked at home:

a site for online play of a simple yet strategically subtle dice game (www.buttonmen.dhs.org)

this site offers real time tracking of commercial airline flights (flightview.com)

web comic written by the author of on the fastrack and safe havens (kevinandkell.com)

this streaming music site adapts amazingly to your tastes (pandora.com)

includes one of the internets great repositories of mollusk information (sploofus.com)

this blog presents and discusses all sorts of unusual maps (StrangemapsWordpressCom)

create comic strips from predrawn backgrounds and characters including me (stripcreator.com)

you can find articles about most anything and many of their facts are true (wikipedia.org)

here you can listen to thousands of live concert recordings (wolfgangsvault.com)

radio station site is a solid source of washington dc area news (wtop.com)

To clarify on Clue 6, that's how I sent it in due to space constraints. The site is strangemaps.wordpress.com

flightview.com is a marvelous site when there's bad weather and your local airport keeps upping the arrival times! It has saved a lot of heartache and worry for us!
What do you mean "including me" on the characters on the comics? Or were you just being funny?

Ah yes, mollusks! I stared at that one for a bit before I committed myself to the guess. I had just the slightest recollection of something or other related to mollusks on Sploofus, which is why I took the risk. Got #11 anyway, but, hey, it could have been worse!

Ann, what I meant by "including me" was just that. The art there was either donated by professional artists or created and provided by talented members. Early on in the site's life, one of the latter group offered to draw site members in the proper format, and I volunteered myself (and a cat) one of them.
