The final set stands at 59 games all as the match enters it's third day having been suspended for bad light two days running! Isner (USA) has served 98 aces Mahut (France) 95. Isner had match points at 33-32 and 59-58! Isner's fastest serve was 143 mph. Taylor Dent claimed the Wimbledon record at 148mph in another match. The set has already lasted more than 7 hours! They have smashed records for duration, aces and games of course. The previous highest set score was 24-22 (5hrs 12mins) between Pancho Gonzales and Charlie Pasarell in 1969. The 6ft 9in American looked out on his feet but somehow clung on, the frenchman seemed remarkably fresh say the reports. Mahut had already won a set 24-22 in the qualifying tournament.
You have got to ask, Is the serve getting too dominant at Wimbledon again? I don't want to see a tourament in which the guy who who can serve the fastest wins because nobody can return it. In my opinion tennis is getting ugly. All of the players are beating the c*$p out of the ball because if they let up they get jumped on. So much of the finesse has gone out of the game especially on fast courts.

A lot of my interest disappeared along with the serve-and-volley games of Rafter and Borg et al. Most of the rest went with Agassi. Just can't get fired up any more.

For me it was McEnroe. All downhill from the maestro -- not to mention tantrum-waiting.....

Any surface but clay is too fast --but there again I like cricket.

I still enjoy watching the women play...can't THINK why that should be......

Isner finally won 70-68 and both players served 100 aces in this truly extraordinary. So they effectively played out an 11-9 set today alone. Both players were presented with mementos after the game. My bet is that Isner may not get too much further in this tournament after such an exhausting encounter.

I must admit, Barry, that I find a certain pleasure in watching the women play, but no doubt Smaug and all the other old women will make out that we are dirty old men because of this.

I get your point! I prefer watching the men myself! Not ashamed to say so either! I guess it makes the world go round, huh?

As I predicted Isner went out. He was totally exhausted. Lucky that game wasn't a semi-final.
I agree the woman are far more attractive although a 70-68 squawkathon would be too wearing. Do you think they would lose their voices?
