Nor is France. Spain is at risk tomorrow, Germany also lost to a lesser regarded European club, and you know about England. The traditional Europowers mostly don't seem to be what they used to be. Meanwhile, South America is still undefeated, and if Chile and Brazil can keep that true tomorrow, it will have five group winners! Go figure.

That's a surprise. The world champions out!
Barry, you mention that the big european teams aren't doing well. What about Holland? They've won all their games.

Australia is out, too......even though our Socceroos just beat Serbia 2 - 1.
I dunno how they figure out that.

I think Australia tied in points with Ghana. I then thought that it had something to do with goals scored which is why USA is first in their group and England is second. But Australia scored more goals than Ghana. Unless the one loss that Australia had was against Ghana. Head to head play is first then all that I mentioned above. I'm not really helpful, am I?!

No one has scored against Portugal yet, it may be interesting. Kaka plays for Brazil, quite a player, I watched the Cote d'Ivoire game, he handles the ball so well and his speed is crazy. So much fun to watch at this level and see the execution of the game done so well. Too bad I'm working!

Everyone's working - and everyone's just taking time out (in UK at least, for the England games)!

Spain v. Chile tonight which should be better - Spain need to go for it.

I heard Kaka had to sit out this game. What was his violation? Was he red carded? I'll watch more tonight if its on and more this weekend....hooray for the weekend!

Yep, he was red carded, and misses one game.
This is the rule through the preliminary rounds.
There's then been a change for this World Cup - the yellow/red card suspensions are cancelled from the semis onwards, so that 'stars' won't be missing from the finals.
Seems to guarantee legalised mayhem in the semis!

It also guarantees that bad decisions and/or play acting don't result in players getting undeserved red cards and miss the final. This could affect the whole team not just the player who misses out. It takes pressure off the refs too. They can feel more free to issue cards knowing it won't cost the player too dearly nor will it cost them if they make a poor decision. A howler a la Graham Poll at this stage could end their refereeing days.

Yeh, I s'pose they can still be redded out of the match.
Good move overall, maybe.

Italy and France met years ago for the championship.

This year they met at the airport. The French in particular were just dreadful.

USA was impressive but lost out to Ghana again.

The Socceroos, Bev? Uh, I don't think so. Cricket, rugby, swimming and tennis are your sports.
