We just lost our second baseman, perhaps our best player, one of our best pitchers, and our cathcer all in one weekend series. We are a game out behind the Skan-Yankees but really we are in a panic mode. We need to tread water and get some help. But this is our MO for being a Red Sox fan.

If you haven't heard the good part of the bad news, Victor Martinez suffered a break of the bone in the tip of his thumb - but - there's a decent chance that he won't hit the DL - at least as of the latest.

Meanwhile, they've already received far more from the Daniel Navas and Darnell McDonalds and Bill Halls and Scott Atchisons on the roster than anyone could ever have hoped for, and they've added Eric Patterson, who despite having a craptacular year (earning his DFA in Oakland) is a serviceable replacement-level player who can fill in, alongside Hall until the Laser Show Dustin Pedroia returns. Of course, if Jose Iglesias wasn't on the DL up in Portland, this would otherwise be the perfect opportunity to see the slick-fielding shortstop prospect of the near-future.

C'mon, being a Sox fan has always been about faith - even when unwarranted. What's a dozen injuries have to do with not winning the best division in the majors, by far?

They moved into 2nd place in the AL East and right on the tail of the Yanks after last night's win. Can't be too bad. The starters are doing really well right now too. You can't ask for a better person to stand in for Martinez than Varitek. Won't it be hard for Martinez to bat with a broken finger?
By the way there is the Buchholtz injury too. Hopefully it won't be a problem. Go Red Sox!

At least you didn't lose three straight games to the worst team in baseball.
