How nice that we have been told what we can and can't talk about. I understand the insults and such have no place here.....but being told what we can talk about?

I'm still interested in political banter, and posted something in the liberal politics group (only because it was the only political group that seemed to be already formed) if anyone is interested. If not.....oh well. I will miss the dialogue......I agree, the new policy is a bit disconcerting for "some" i'm sure.

Heck, Linda, the hall monitiors wouldn't even let us discuss where we might discuss a political subject.

Apparently the new site is not as friendly as one would like.

Hi All,

No place to "discuss" things now and I promised myself that I would actually behave...well maybe I would And there's so much to discuss!

Right on, Abby

Maybe we should make a list of the events that occurred during our long hibernation.

I'll start

Liz Taylor passed away - now there was one drop-dead gorgeous and talented lady

Larry King retired - where will the Jackson family lament Michael's death now?

Wikileaks

Chilean miners resurface

Japanese nuclear disaster

Giants win World Series; Packers take Super Bowl

HI Andy! that was an interesting and diverse list. We could speak about them all for days. I chuckle at the Larry King remark!
How do you like Piers?

Will perhaps be difficult to distinguish between NEWS and POlITICS-know I enjoy hearing Surereyman's views on the "wars' and such. Think most would be glad if the "NASTY" was taken out of posts but to eliminate all views on world things MO takes much of the personality out of Sploofus. Not my site though and hope things work out for the revised team. Maybe in time someone could say specifically if asking for prayers as some folks do is considered religion and all news has to be politically poison and thus violate TOU dunno Would really hate to see Chick quit posting -she insults almost everyone but loved here. Don't know if Smaug has returned yet nor will but his "uniquie" posts and topics such as the "Death Pool" would be missed by most who have gotten to know him over time-guess we will see

When you push people out (as they have done)...it has a way coming back. The censorship and backstabbing from the previous sploofus cost sploofus a lot of people. I would hate to see it that way again.

I like to discuss the news, but could surely do without the politics as that is the thing that becomes nasty. Maybe we should focus on the butterflies and rainbows since those posts seem to still be there.

How does one discuss things like War without getting into politics-?not being sarcastic just NEW that is simply NEWS to some might be politics to others. Guess things like natural disasters like earthquakes etc. might be safe ff one does not attribute them to Devine Retribution or "Climate Change" difficult walk to walk

M0 they are just getting the feel of things-modifications in TOU or perhaps a place for more contentious issues while keeping respect for other views- dunno- if simply the games work to keep the membership maybe no changes...

I certainly agree with rules for no back biting which the group we had including myself seemed incapable of. I still
would like discussion on topics of the day. I also think religion should be out because with international members
religion is best left to pm's. That said I am so happy to see EVERYONE back! It is great to have sploofus on again.
If some members don't come back maybe the community is better off, as some would post just to start an argument.
Peace, love and dove, Stephanie

Nice to "see" you, Maureen.

I think Piers is pretty cool. I don't think he does as many shows as did Larry, but he has a higher caliber of guests (as opposed to that dreadful bounty hunter guy or the UFO freaks), he asks more incisive questions, and he's hardly as blasé as Larry.

Well, Goddess, I sure would like to discuss that nuclear disaster. I have been pro-nuclear power, but I think that whole industry needs careful rethinking.

My thinking goes a little like this. If every nuclear power plant is designed to survive what we call a 500-year event (something that will happen every 500 years), but we have 200 such plants on the planet, on average we're going to have a Chernobyl every 2 1/2 years.

Collioure

The maths is not quite right...to demonstrate that, consider the chance of an event happening being one half. The chance of it happening in a two year period is 1/4 not 100%....
(So the chance of a 1/500 event happening once in 256 years is .4. The chance that a 1/500 event does NOT happen is .998.
.998 to the power of 256 is almost exactly .6, and 1-.6 is .4). I used 256 to make my maths easier, for 200 years it's actualy about a 1/3 chance.

Barry, take your .4 and multiply by 200 plants. You get 80 over 256 years.

We need higher standards IMO.
