One month isnít much to base this on, butÖ

I waited until 12:10 EST to start the second October 31 word puzzle. I wanted to see if my points for that puzzle would go into my October stats or my November stats. The points went into November.

My suggestion is based on the hypotheses that the month is determined by completion time (or start time). If thatís not true, then forget the rest of this post and please tell me what the rules really are.

It seems to me that October puzzles should affect October stats and should not be based on when I complete/start the puzzle.

My placement on the Leader Board is totally unimportant to me, and btw Iím only 29 , but I feel like I manipulated the system just a little.

My October points were meaningless, but November is another story. So in the name of science I waited until midnight to do the puzzle, I have jump on my November points, and I like it!

While I like making the Leader Board, thereís this little nagging voice telling me that I manipulated poor olí Sploofus just a little. Okay, okay Iíd do it again at the end of November Ė if it helps me (and, Mavejane is on the Leader Board, Sploofus isnít).

I think I have the ability to direct that final puzzle to whichever pot suits me best. If Iím right, I donít think the playing field is quite level.

If this post should have been directed to some other forum would you please tell me where suggestions should go?

I agree with you entirely, Mavejane - I think each puzzle should be designated as part of one month or the other, and all takers of that puzzle should have the points allocated to the specified month.

However, as you've noted, that's not the case - by taking the last October puzzle at the last moment and the last November puzzle early in its timeframe, you can give yourself 5000+ points more in October than you did in September.

Of course, it means you'll be short a puzzle in December and therefore correspondingly lower on the board, but that's the price you pay, and presumably that's how the Sploofgods consider it evens out.

I must admit I gave up worrying about it fairly quickly and now just play the puzzle when it suits me!

Happy Sploofusing!

I made this observation a while back ago and even submitted a Player Support ticket over it. The general reaction was, "oh well - such is life" - no one really seemed terribly bothered by it. I think the feeling was that it all evens itself out in the greater scheme of things.

It's probably easier for the system just to reset all stats at the same time. As for the WP stats, I know it looks skewed now, but by the end of the month, there will be a relatively small difference in the points collected by those who completed 59, 60 or 61 "November WPs".

And everyone has the same chance to manipulate the system.

But I think MOST of us tend to take the puzzles at the same time each day (not the same time as each other, just the same time each day). I almost always do one in the morning with my coffee, and one when I get home from work. I am sure others do theirs late at night, or at work, but with some sense of pattern.

WPs are kind of unique in how they are scored. If you completed the 8pm EST puzzle before midnight, you immediately get the points you had from the initial 5,000 you started with, but you don't get the bonus points (200+) until 8:15am EST the next day.

I think it's like Kaufman says, not a big deal in the span of the whole month. And life interferes with Sploofussing (did I really say that???!!!) so, do the WPs when you get the chance and don't worry about it.
