Many of you have concerns with the new Faction system. There are many differences between Factions and the old Teams; they really are apples and oranges. The Factions can be looked at as a "barometer" to gauge the majority interests of Sploofusers. You can join, quit, or change your Faction "allegiance" at any time. There is no benefit to joining a Faction, there is no benefit to NOT joining a Faction.

We have tossed the idea of Faction members winning ANYTHING at the end of any period due to their "allegiance".

The bottomline is that Faction's do little more than add an icon to your user profile, and gauge the interests of the Sploofus Community as non-competitive "clubs".

It is not possible for one Faction to "challenge" another. There is no competition between Factions. The aggregate points displayed on the Faction Leaderboard are simply an indicator of the culture and interests amongst Sploofusers.

No prizes or points will be awarded as a result of any aspect of the Faction system.

Unlike Teams, Factions will not have their own private message boards. The Faction Leaderboard is not reset every month as the Teams Leaderboard once was. There is no "leader" in any Faction, nor is there any type of hierarchial leadership structure.

As you can see, there are many fundamental differences between Teams and Factions.

So what's the point?

Perhaps in the future Sploofus can do something for Faction members such as send them a "bonus" question of the day that pertains to the subjects which their Faction represents. Who knows? It is all in the name of keeping things fresh... keeping the mental gears turning, dusting out the cobwebs.

Nothing worse than a stale site. If you do choose to join a Faction, look at it more as a "species" and less as a group or destination.

Unless you are more specific in the descriptions of the factions, it is hard for us generalists, with special interests, to pick a group.

Lacking any tangible benefit, there is little reason to join a faction.

Can't you/us guage the specialist interests of quiztakers by simply seeing the volume of entries per the current quiz topics anyway?
I really cannot understand this concept.
Why not use the space for something rather more contributive?

It looks like the development of these "factions" is an effort to fix something that isn't broken. We don't need any artifical excitement generator.

The people who come here, by and large, aren't in any headlong competition. They come to play the games or take the quizes. Besides, there are only a few prizes for a lot of people--notice that Sploofus has never said exactly how big the gift certificates are, anyway.

Notice that this thread is two years old. It was started in 2005. I think we should probably just let it drop down on the list again; many, many things have changed around here in the past two years.
