Hey folks,

I'll do my best to accommodate your requests and concerns that are expressed within this forum. But I am making NO promises! Sploofus is a lot like Tupperware. You get the lid closed in one place and it pops up in another. It is very difficult to make everyone happy.

Sploofus Polls will be used as the official forum to identify majority rule on popular topics.

Just because Sploofus does not take part in any particular thread does not mean Sploofus is ignoring anybody. Use Player Support to officially voice concerns; that is what it is there for. Also -- keep in mind that Player Support AND Chat Forums are only available to GOLD members.

One Sploofuser very intelligently noted that we will "probably close the chat forum" as soon as people start complaining too much and arguing, bickering, creating negativity, etc. This person was absolutely correct! That is exactly what will happen... so let's be reasonable and enjoy the day.

Thanks for participating in the forum. It sounds like most of you are enjoying the game, and it makes me very happy to hear it.

Happy Sploofusing friends!!!

What! Me bicker?

This is not a threat, but if the chat forum was closed I would not renew my membership. Whatever direction the chat goes, it is what makes this site different than so many others. And when I say different I mean BETTER.

Thank you,

How much bickering?

I do think it is proper to delete some posts that have offensive or questionable content (I have had a few disappear suddenly) and I think Justin has used good judgement in that respect. But I would not like to see full blown censorship. That would get me outta here fast. A good confrontation is good for the soul and the spirit. Maybe we could have a forum called "For the weak and timid", or one called "Love and prayers". That one would get a lot of hits. Oh well, I was just cleaning my mind and it went off.

I also thought that Chat had been opened up to all members. Has that changed?

Hi Linda,
Note that the post from Justin is nearly three years old, from 2005.

Don - you are on fire tonight. I would throw money at you if I could. Or at least hold my cell phone open for an encore. That just doesn't compare to a sea of lighters but this is a new era!

WOW Justin....did you BACK DATE your initial post on this thread
or is it one that just re-surfaces when you feel it to be necessary....

For myself....I believe that the increased number of "complaining"
posts is a reflection of the anxiety some members are felling about
all the changes you have made recently. The Island is definitely more
difficult to navigate, until we all are used to it. AND perhaps you
opened that door when you invited members to "test" or " voice
their complaints" about the new Beta version 2.......
You give some people an inch....and they take a mile!!!!

I agree totally with Smaug's observation that it divides a "family"
when there are too many different rooms in the House....
Most people come to the "Salty Dog" just because they don't want to
miss anything important, or funny, or about an up-coming event.

Do I have a ask????
I wish there were fewer totally absorbing things to do here....
I'm supposed to be unpacking and fixing up my new home....

Thank you for noticing. I do care. I didn't think of it as a trick, but maybe a wake up call to people to just be nice to each other. I thought maybe the words of Mr. Sploofus himself would resonate. It was a good idea then and I think it is still a good idea.

Thanks for digging up that blast from the past - most of it is still relevant and also makes a very important statement - what you write stays forever and can come back to bite you in the ass.

That makes me want to start another irrelevant SD thread though

Foogs doesn't like it when people refer to themselves
in the third person.

That episode was hilarious! And Elaine ended up going out with him thinking it was that hunk at the gym! I loved that show! I think I have an addiction to exclamation marks - look at that - 3 in a row. I'm going to have to deal with this one day at a time - sigh.

Justin, I'm glad you're still watching what goes on (or in) the forums. To settle some people's complaints, perhaps there could be a special forum for never-ending threads which, for some reason, seem to irritate a few of the people here??? Thanks!

Would it be ethical to dig up an old message from Justin
and pass it off as having been written by this
particular time????

Context is everything, if one is looking for the Truth....

The message clearly says:

Wed, 17th Aug '05 8:31 PM

I caught it this time because I was fooled once before when I was new. It was a day before I looked at the original date and time and saw the message was very old, refluxed.

I know what the message says....
I'm just perturbed by the parts that
seem to have been deleted - and
that the source of this regurgitation
appears to want anonimity....

If you click here:
it takes you back to the last page of the salty dog's original threads.
Mr. Sploofus is bold (unlike the rest of us) and you can see other posts by Justin way back when with the same "bold type" - this shows that this was one of Justin's original posts - maybe I'm not understanding but I sure don't want to come off like a know it all again - because that is never my intention - so it appears in everyway that this was just a bumped thread of one of Justin's posts back in the day.

I think Maggie's intent was genuine, to let us "newbies" know what happened in the past when there must have been lots of bickering to perhaps make us think about how we all play on our Sploofus playground.

If I'm misunderstanding the "deleted parts" let me know, as I'm assuming it refers to the top of the thread.

I can see I need to be a little more plain-speaking, to make my point

If you noticed - about the next 6 posts (after Maggies first post)
were all negative responses to a percieved threat to close the
Chat Forums if the members didn't "play nice"

1. If this was one of your first days on Sploofus - and you saw Justin threatening
to close a Chat room, and that negative response by members....would you
feel all warm and fuzzy, and want to stay on the Island????

2. If I were Justin and trying to BUILD the membership....I would be upset that
"someone" used my words - from years ago and out of context - to make
a point that I don't know about or necessarily agree with. Justin is the only
person who can decide what to say and when to reprimand

3. It was put forward in a way that purported to be current and from Justin. It's
obvious that the first people who replied, believed that to be the case....
Wouldn't it have been better and more ethical if the person who started this
thread had simply posted under their own name and written it as a "quote'
or simply a reminder.

And that's my point....

Since I am the one who posted it, or rather "bumped" it, maybe I can tell you why I did. I was reading back through some of the old postings. Someone had posted on here about how things compared from the early days of Sploofus to now. What Justin had to say then certainly seemed to hold the test of time. I did not perceive his post as threatening in any way. After bumping it, I clearly posted something about it being an interesting blast from the past. As mentioned, posts are dated. I did not feel I had to add a disclaimer, as bumping is done all the time. Since no one else had posted on that message, I did not feel it was taken out of context. I thought it made valid points then and they still all hold true. I considered it food for thought. I apologize if anyone feels I somehow tried to fool them. The gist of it was, play nice, treat each other decently and have fun. Sounds good to me.

Maybe we're ignoring the part of Justin's post about the polls. If Justin chooses not to make all the decisions regarding Sploofus on his own, then the poll method versus the clique method would be outstanding.

Thanks Rowlanda - NOW I understand

Felix - There were only ever two polls since I joined Sploofus on 1.0 - I notice they aren't here (didn't notice they weren't until this post was bumped to the top) - it wasn't something I was looking for since they didn't seem to really be used pre-2.0...but I've always liked polls

The easiest way to find a member of the inside clique is look for those questioning as to who is in the clique. It's really pretty simple. Have a great day. Glad to help.

No one can join my clique has one member, that away the only person I can disagree with it myself and I must tell you have some interesting arguments with myself sometimes. LOL
