I had a problem with a showdown that I did yesterday. I hit enter, it held for a few seconds then it told me that I could not enter the answer twice and gave me an error message.. which apparently i lost today but have no idea what the answer was or my time since it never allowed me to see this

I am using a dial-up connection, IE 6.0 with SP2, and I use Windows XP with SP 2
Much appreciated.
Thanks for such quick attention to the matter. I can see a difference with the new server. i am getting much faster times on the quizzes and i have not had any page freezes since the new server got up and running right. I am thrilled with the one exception, thanks for all the hard work and time that you put into this.

I did a showdown several days ago, it was due to expire last night. It is not showing that I won, lost or stalemate. It is showing 0.0 hours left and has shown as such for some time now.. it wont go away, not giving me the points or showing that it was a stalemate or loss/ I got the question right on that particular one, so the only way that i lost is if the person got it right faster than me
I am very confused
this is the second problem that i have had with the showdown system since the new server was installed

Ravenslight, that is a "feature" of the system. When an opponent defaults on a showdown challenge, it takes an extra day or two for the result to be logged and your points awarded. But they should come. If it isn't settled by Monday, post here again.

I figure from past experience that it goes until midnight of the next day before it posts points. If a showdown expires at 5:00pm, it goes passed midnight tonight, then it goes on to midnight the next night before it pays out. I don't know if the payout is at midnight, but the points are usually there by the time I have turned on the system in the morning.

I don't know if this belongs here, but I was challenged to a showdown by Friendly two days ago and when I tried to start the showdown, it gave a message that Friendly no longer had an account. The same message showed up again this morning. Thanks Justin.

This is just my thoughts, but you may go ahead and win the showdown by default since the person would be unable to respond. You would find this out when the time limit is up. I'm guessing that you went ahead and answered the question. I think even if you give the wrong answer when a person does not respond, you win by default. Someone else may have an opinion on this.

I didn't even get the question. There is a message that the showdown has been cancelled. When I checked on the leaderboard for Friendly, the name wasn't even listed anywhere near mine. Strange. Sally

I would guess Sally may have left/canceled/hopped on the UFO with Elvis. She does not show up in the user directory.

I was challenged to a showdown recently, but it would'nt let me take it. I tried clicking on the yellow notice, but it said no current challenges. I would have said something sooner, but my computer crashed. I am not refering to the current challenge. Lol... I would like to blow challenges on my own if its all the same to you Justin.

DONPABLO22 was able to answer the Showdown question correctly faster than you did. Sorry, but this means that you have lost this Sploofus Showdown! DONPABLO22 has taken 420163 points away from your account!

I staged a single showdown, it got three responses:

01/10/2007 8:28 PM Sploofus Showdown results: suzer22 vs. bubbles2482
01/10/2007 8:28 PM Sploofus Showdown results: suzer22 vs. bubbles2482
01/10/2007 8:28 PM Sploofus Showdown results: suzer22 vs. bubbles2482

One says stalemate. two said I lost.

My showdown history shows only the stalemate, but I lost the points and the place on the leaderboard (and bubbles moved up, we were #'s 107 and 108 and now I am 115 and she is 103)

I am on Mac, Safari, sprint satellite dish

I never even saw the question, I clicked to take it and it and the page went directly to the page that says I lost. Although I lost no points since THEY challenged me I didn't get to win any either. I am on cable, IE7.0

I answered the question correctly and within maybe 5 seconds or so. But the timer bar went down and down. Then before the bar was even at the end, the page changed over and said that I exceeded the time limit!

Also, it didn't give me a question ID number. It never does when it says I have exceeded the time limit.

What if my opponent answers correctly and doesn't run into any problems. Do they win even if by chance they were technically slower than me?

Same as previous post - I hit the answer w/in 5 seconds, and watched the bar descend into nothingness, and it told me I timed out I'm very sad about it.

Answered question in about 5 seconds and watched it time out as I sat here using colorful language and making animated gestures. Oh yeah,,I might add that both myself and my challenger answered the question wrong but what if,,,,,,,?

I posted earlier that I'd had it timed out even though I lost no points since I was the chalangee. Still, you wonder if you answered correctly and if so, how nice to have gotten those points. Unfortunately, the chance is lost forever.

I just tried to open a showdown staged by abancells, but I waited several minutes without the question ever loading. My Command Center page still shows me as having 1 open challenge, but when I click on that link, the showdowns page shows no open challenges for me. The challenge is not listed in the table showing wins, losses, & stalemates. Could I please have another chance at the question or another chance at the challenge with a new question for both of us? Thank you for your help.

Webtv. I made one challenge right before the upgrade and got the correct answer. I was challenged the next day, and the system would not let me answer the question. I got an error message. The sploofus space says I have two open challenges. The showdown sections says I have NO open challenges. I hope I don't lose any points on this.

Hi Justin,

I staged a showdown and the system has doubled my points loss. I have lost a total of 269610 points when I should have only lost 134805 points. Whats going on? I recently became a gold member and I have to say that at this stage I dont belive it was money well spent. If someone could get back to me with what is going on I would appreciate it. Also a contact e-mail for the webmaster would be easier.

-Web browser - Internet Explorer 7
-Operating System - Windows XP
- Internet connection - Dial-up 56k

I don't know if this is due to slow dial up or not, but I answered a Showdown question correctly and clicked in the submit button. Then I watched the timer go down for at least 7 seconds (I'm sure) and then I was told I answered correctly, but too slow.

This happened to me with a QOTD before the server upgrade so I don't know if it is a site related issue or because I have dial up. I thought I would report it just in case.

For the record, I'm having fun and don't mind terribly (after the initial arghghg of fustration, that is).

I've had it too, as no doubt have so many others.

I'm sure Sploofus is well aware of all this.

No doubt all will be well, as and when.

Meanwhile, I'm still devoting my mental energies to trying to solve the Nam problem!

Just tried to stage a showdown, hit "show me the question," it churned and churned, timed out, went to a blank white screen. I decided to leave it alone and come back later, but now it says I have an open showdown and I've never seen a question!

Help! This is 35 million points on the line! I don't mind losing (okay I do) but I at least want to get to play first!

I just noticed that I staged a showdown and on my profile page it says I have 1 live showdown, but if I click on showdownds it says I have no showdown challenges currently live.
Could this have anything to do with the fact that I challeneged the same person twice in a row?
Or something else?

I attempted my first showdown last night (or was it the wee hours of the morning) ... it took forever to load ... then said I hadn't answered within 30 seconds, although timer was barely a quarter of the way down. I think I was on Internet Explorer at the time (switched over to Foxfire after the problem), DSL, PC.
