A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS REQUEST

I have a very simple request - I'd like you to send me a Christmas card! But not just any card...

...I admit it, I am a Nativity-scene junkie! I am currently working on an art project and I am in need of more raw materials: Nativity scene Christmas cards.

New or used, any image or characters associated with the navity scene: shepherds, angels, wise men, animals in the stable, the holy family, Madonna and child, Bethlehem, etc.

I cannot use prayer cards or digital pictures...just Christmas cards. Large or small, cutesy or dignified, realistic or abstract.

If you happen to be sending out Christmas cards this year that have a Nativity scene on them, would you be willing to spend one extra stamp to send one to me??

OR, after the holidays are over, bundle up ALL the Nativity-scene cards that you received (cut off the personal notes or signatures, if you want to), and pop them all in a big envelope and send them to me. I can't promise you anything in return, but I know in my heart that the cost of the postage will come back to you 10-fold in good karma

If nothing else, please forward this message to any of your friends or family who may be willing to help me out!

Thanks for your help in my Nativity art project!

You mean you aren't interested in a photo card of my three kids and our French bulldog?

Good luck, Suzer. I hope you get lots of cards.

~Tracy

P.S. I think you are brave to post your address. Who knows what kind of kooks are around here lurking... You might get some weird mail.

Hi Suzer, I'm a Santa card person myself but I get cards with lovely Nativity Scenes from some of my friends. Your address is on my calendar to-do-list for New Year's Day. Hope you get lots of cards. Franny

Violet - I would LOVE the photo of your kids... if they are dressed up as wise men, and the dog is sleeping in a manger

I would love to share my art project but I am a procrastinator of epic proportions...I have been gathering my raw materials for several years now, while I finish up a 5 year quilt-making project!

But, I promise, I will post pictures when this project is ever done! It might not be until 2025 though

Suzer,
I understand those epic projects. I started a baby blanket when my niece Vicki was born and finished it for Vicki's baby. But, she did get it!

DOH!

I received several more anonymous cards, and one even signed by Bushyfox - thanks Bev!

So I am bumping this thread, hoping some more of you will remember my humble request!

Hope everyone is having a lovely holiday and has fun plans for New Year's Eve!

On their way ... on their way ... on their way (and gets you bumped!).

As a matter of interest, of our approx. 150 UK cards received, just 24 were 'Nativity' - 16%.

Indicative of something, no doubt!

Alan - 150 cards??? You are the most popular person I know!!

It seems that in the US the nativity scene cards are less and less popular. Some of my friends have been very creative in their interpretation...

One friend sent me a card that had two tall nutcracker soldiers and one small one.

My brother sent me a card with two polar bears and said "this is Mary polar bear and baby Jesus polar bear!"

So I thank you all for remembering and helping me out (and bumping this thread

OMG! I just went to my PO Box and I had received so many cards they had to give me an extra locker!!! You guys are sooooo cool! (of course, I already knew that!).

In this batch alone I got cards from Florida, Oregon, Alabama, NY, Kansas, Utah, Michigan and Surrey, England! I am overwhelmed by everyone's generosity and support!

Isn't the world a wonderful place

Thank you all so much - this totally made my day - my week - and my year!

Or after the holidays, recycle those cards! I PROMISE that I will eventually get this project under way and start posting pictures!!

We have many cards and since this year we are cleaning out the old we should beable to send you a big envelope with many nativity scenes. BTW are nativity scenes allowed in Tempe?

I'm sure I could manage @ least one.

I'm very wary of giving out my name, much less my last name or anything else - you are brave.

Good luck w/your project

Although many people here know my real name is Susan, I am sure there are many Susan's in Tempe Arizona, so I didn't think a PO Box was that revealing. I do try to be careful about that.

Tempe used to have a nativity display on top of Tempe Butte, but it has recently been replaced by a snowman family. I don't think there are any city sponsored religious displays.

i noticed that you left off the names, but i see so many profiles w/people displaying their whole name (i can't bring myself to do it); more than i thought i'd ever see. i'm sure some may be fake but others aren't.

BUMP

Just the fronts are fine if you want to cut off the personal message part - but I promise not to laugh at the silly pet names your friends all call you!

Well, it's now two years after my original request and I am STILL collecting. As soon as I finish that quilt I've been making for 10 years I'll get started on this art project :-0

But I would love it if any of you have cards to share with me again this year. The PO Box is still open and waiting!

Happy Holidays to all!

The usual UK package will be on its way to you - after 12th. Night!

And here's my annual percentage count of nativity cards - 13 of 110 - 12%.

Sign of the times? A further percentage reduction from previous years.

More telling perhaps is our total received - down by some 21% - or maybe that's just my declining popularity!

My dear Sploofus family - please forgive the repeat of this request but I am STILL collecting!

Anyone with an extra nativity-themed card - please consider just one more stamp to send it off to Arizona!

And used card can be recycled after the holidays. All interpretations are welcome
