JANUARY CHALLENGE QUIZZES -- Start your keyboards

It is time to start your CQ for January.

TITLE for your quiz: (your name)'s Natural World Quiz

Put this at the top of your quiz details: Welcome to the January Challenge Quizzes -- a game for quiz takers and makers.

(Put your description of your quiz here)

Read the changes to the rules...#5. It is new as of 12-14-06

These are the rules that apply to every Community Quiz (CQ).

1. All normal Sploofus (SQAG) quiz-writing rules to apply.

2. All quizzes must be exactly 10 questions in length.

3. Only one CQ per author per event.

4. No Fill-In-The-Blank or Kids quizzes.

5. Quizzes must be submitted within the announced submission window. CATEGORY CLOSES AT LAUNCH. QUIZZES NOT IN THE SYSTEM AT LAUNCH TIME WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED INTO THE CATEGORY.

6. Quizzes must be named as described in the event announcement

7. Quizzes must contain the common quiz description.

8. The interpretation of each CQ topic is entirely up to you, but it is still subject to the review Sploofus editors and must be able to pass the "reasonable person" test when it comes to being germane and meeting "Family Friendly" standards. But it helps if you remember that the more general and international it is, the more quiz-takers and points you'll get! Any specialist/regional restriction should be stated in the part of the quiz description for you personal description of your quiz.

9. Have fun

Isn't the Natural World topic very close to our Natural Wonders of the World Community Quiz, since we got pretty creative with the Wonders of the World?

Hmmmmmmm...methinks me thought something similar to Maurlin.

Now, to do a quiz that is on a different level, and different theme to the previous CQ: Aye, there's the rub!

I will not disagree. But I will say that when we polled the writers, this was one of the Top 3 suggestions/choices by those who responded. It was promised at the time that we would do all three of the the top ones. This is the last of those. We will need to solicit more topics after this round.

Since I may not be a gold member when you revisit the subject maybe I can throw in a coiuple of ideas now?

Comedy and (or) tragedy

arts and sciences

silver and gold

I went back in chat history, and found this post, after the August Natural Wonders of the World:

"The first quiz challenge was a great event and very successful. Twenty-seven (27) quizzes were created on Natural Wonders of the World. Quiz ratings ranged from 7.6 to 8.3. They were the best series of quizzes I ever took. I am eager to do it again.

Now is the time to start preparing for the September challenge. All of the first challenge participants were asked to send in ideas for the new challenge. The three most popular were selected. It is now time everyone ot voice an opinion and help pick the September quiz subject. Please pick one (1) from the following:

In September we did Famous/Infamous, in October, Musical, in November Awards, and in December, Holidays. It seems that the next one should be MANMADE, not NATURAL wonders.

Methinks Maurlin has a good point....manmade wonders could include an incredible range of interesting things. I believe January's topic is too much like the Natural Wonders quiz.

Please don't change it now, I've got half of mine written! It's such an enormous field, we have the whole world and virtually everything in it to write about. I'm confident everyone, dig something up.

Tuzilla - I agree, manmade wonders. And what is the launch date? This time of year is so busy I would sure like to know the launch date ahead of time, so I know when I absolutely have to write this.

I have to side with Smoke20. I don't think it is a good idea to switch themes after this announcement. I will post another thread in a few days soliciting new theme ideas for the future.

LAUNCH DATE is January 2nd. Please have your quizzes in as early as possible. But in any event. They must be in the system before the launching.

Earlier in this chat, you posted "It was promised at the time that we would do all three of the the top ones". Obviously you've decided to go against your statement, since the top three included Manmade, not Natural, Wonders. I wish you luck with your repeated theme. I'll sit this one out.

Maurlin. I dug back and you are right. I am sorry. I had written things down wrong in the log. We will do Manmade Wonders next month. Sorry.

I hesitate to antagonize anyone any further about this, but am I the only one who sees a difference between "natural wonders" and "the natural world?" The natural world abounds in things you couldn't rightfully call wonders, but are still very interesting and quiz-worthy. It's a far broader category than manmade wonders, and even includes them in many cases.

Imagination, people!

I am completely with you Smoke. Natural Wonders and the Natural World are 2 completely different things to me, with the Natural World being a much broader topic. Anything from bugs, to plants, to rocks, to animals, to natural wonders could fit into the Natural World. I probably would not have set this one up so soon since it can encompass the Natural Wonders, but I also agree that it shouldn't be changed after being announced. With so many possibilities that would fit this topic, I would think that it shouldn't be too hard for one to come up with ideas not related to the Natural Wonders.

I don't understand why we are repeating a topic already.

I've just written my Natuiral world quiz and I can concur --there is absolutely no overlap with the two subjects under discussion.
I admit when I set out I was not sure that this would be so; but NW is all-inclusive, perhaps, no definitely, the widest topic so far. Anyone who can't find a subject that falls largely under this heading should go back to macrame/rafia and wait for inspiration next year....

They're being launched on the 2nd, and the launch closes the category, so to be safe I'd have it in by the 1st. Looking forward to it Bev!

The instructions say to put "Welcome to the January Challenge Quizzes -- a game for quiz takers and makers" at the top of the quiz. Then add my quiz details.

Is this all? The last community quiz I did (November) had a much longer intro.

Yes, that is all. No need for us to continue the long leader.
