After I hit start it seems to take about 10 seconds for the WordRound to load up. Is this normal for everyone else? I wondered if that time was actually being counted against me, so I timed it... and it is! That blows.

That's life. If you have a dial-up connection word rounds are a worthwhile distraction - but you cannot get down to the 20-25 second level needed to win.

You can try shutting down everything else on your pc that may be competing for bandwidth.

By the way (enlighten a stick in the mud englishman) does "that blows" mean the same as "that sucks".

And, before despairing, i got 4 first places on wordrounds in a day on a cranky old dial up system. (just make sure linenlady, swarp, ehdgdson etc are on holiday.)

Yes, it happens to me all the time. I have a fast machine on a cable hook-up.

Matthew, "that blows" does (in one of those strange quirks of American slang) mean the same thing as "that sucks." Makes no sense to me either.

I play wordrounds on both a high speed computer (home) and dial up (work). I find that I get faster rounds on the dial up, mainly due to the mouse. Lately though, I have noticed that I may get one good time in per hour and all the others have ranged from 10 - 25 seconds loads, one was a whopping 32 seconds according to my clock. So I just think it is luck of the loading draw. I just have fun doing them and I delude myself into thinking that it is an educational past time.

That's life? Awesome reply, my friend.

As for dial-up... I am on a T-1.

my times yesterday on word rounds varied quite a bit-my best time was 29 s.,but that was the only decent time of the whole day-i had some 60's also-took forever to load-the ones i made 100 % on,usually were the ones that had the longest loading times-(wouldn't u know it,just my luck)But new computer is in near future-so hopefully i can blame it on the old one-if not,it's the sploofus system...Martha

I too am T-1 and find that it takes forever to load the questions. I have nothing running in the background, just me and Sploofus. Doesn't seem fair. Wahhhh. I have tried cleaning my hard drive and cleansing my soul (insert laugh here) and nothing seems to work. Ideas out there computer whiz's???

I've given up on WordRounds because of (I'm assuming) my crappy computer and dial up connection slowing me down, as they do with anything else, not just Sploofus. I stick to Puzzles and my TQOTDs, and, of course, annoying people by putting in my 2 cents (to the googleplex power) on this message board.

I think some is due to what you're using (DSL, dial-up, etc.), and some is the site itself. There have been times where I can finish each attempt in under 32-35 sec., but as for tonight, I only had one that registered under 40 seconds. The pages were loading quite slower, and nothing I changed on my computer could help it. That's just how it goes...just try for that 100%, and even if it takes 50 seconds, you still beat out 90% right in record time.
