I was just wondering if anyone can tell me how the popular list works? Last night my quiz, "So Many Questions, So Very Few answers" had happily climbed to number 7 on the list, and was there at midnight. This morning it is completely gone, but all the ones around it are still there.

I am definately not complaining I just thought it was odd that with 344 takers, and almost 400 by the Sploofus numbers that it was just completely gone from the page this morning after being at number 7 late last night. It also had over 30 takers yesterday, and even 4 or 5 already today.

Thank You Rocco

I'm not sure I am remembering the number correctly but I think a quiz can only stay on the Top 25 list for something like 10 days from its launch date.

If your quiz didn't hit the list until it was 5 days old, it would only stay on the list for 5 days. The list does not bump off whatever is in the number one spot, but whatever is 10 days old.

Now, as to how it gets ON the list in the first place, that is an algorithm based on of number of takers and the ratings scores.

Thank you Suzer. So if that is correct then th one at number 1 today, "100 Greatest TV Shows 10-1" will be completely gone tomorrow.

That doesn't seem quite fair then if it is still popular, then the list would not really be accurate would it?

As that quiz has had over 900 takers, so it would still remain one of the most popular taken in the last 10 days, bumped off by a less popular quiz only because it has been there to long. Go figure. Rocco

Look into some old old threads and you will see that this was a much discussed issue. The list used to be Top 10 (not 25), and quizzes stayed until they were 30 days old. It became a self-perpetuating, false popularity, as it is was at the top of the main page (and in the old days there were not as many pages), most folks would take a few quizzes off that list, and rarely get down to look at the rest of the Categories.

So the solution to keeping that list rotating was to make the changes as it is now! It is still not totally "fair" (but what in life is?), and there was a lot of grumping when it was discovered that a quiz's launch date was when it was originally launched by the author, and not when it was approved and released by the editors. That has been amended now, I believe.

You just have to accept that it is not a true list of the current Top 25, but a list of the 25 Most Popular that are 10 days old or younger! I still think it's nice to get the extra exposure, and love it when one of mine makes it there (for however short a time
