Just a thought - (not an original one - however, pointed out to me by another player). If we respond to known agitators, then we feed the need for attention. So - I wonder if there is a specific need for clarification, perhaps we could send individual notes to the origin point - if we want to question or offer a counter point. When we make it public, then it validates the point, therefore encouraging the continuance.

Just my thoughts.

P.S. Please don't respond to this post, it will only encourage me to write more.

Ummagumma, I know you asked for no repsonses but I have never been one to listen. LOL

After reading your post I had a thought. Well more of a pondering.

I spent an hour earlier, re-reading the vast majority of what I have written in here, both threads I have started and ones I have merely participated in. I don't see myself as an 'agitator' as such but I will say when I think someone is wrong.

On this site there are many people who (I would like to think) know that I am a fairly honest person when it comes to dealing with others. I am not going to name names as my ego doesn't need the boost (it's large enough as it is).

If someone has a problem with me and they say about it to me privately but in a decent manner then that problem gets solved as long as it is a win win situation. I can think of a few times where that is relevant.

What we have to remember (and I believe myself not to be guilty of being an agitator) is sometimes life is like a playground. If someone belittles you in any way, you can choose to ignore it or belittle them back more.

To paraphrase John Lennon (am I allowed to do that without citing the source??!??!?? LOL)

'There are no problems only solutions'

Bag, you've always struck me as a kindred spirit, in that you always seem to be trying to clarify the issues in the belief and hope that if people understand each other better they can't help but get along. I like your style, kid.

I hope I'm not an agitator but I do have a hard time leaving a situation alone if I feel I'm being misunderstood. Maybe I've had too much therapy, but I'm a believer is hashing things out if possible. True that one has to know when to walk away, but in some situations that just leaves a problem to sit and fester and come back to bite you in the arse down the road.

I guess I'd have to say I enjoy a good argument as long as it's civil. A group of people as smart as we are can surely manage to disagree on occasion without being destructive about it. What I don't enjoy is animosity. I don't have to dislike someone to think they're dead wrong.

Umma, I see what you're saying, and you make a good point, I take it to heart; but now and again I think it's also helpful to settle something in public where it started so that everyone knows where everyone stands, and now and again someone needs to be called on their stuff. Settling differences in private when possible is all very well, but I have to say I've had far more nasty things said to me in private messages than ever on the open board.

I think I am an agitator. Now I will explain that. I do not believe in name calling, nasty insults and slandering ones country of origin, etc. I do believe in a little difference of opinion, harmless banter, and constructive criticism. I must say that before I began my posts I thought the "group hugs" and all the "wonderfuls" were a little over the top but that is my opinion and I am entitled to it. If I see something wrong I will mention it in a post. If I disagree-or agree strongly- on something I will post a reply. I will not call anyone a jerk etc. as some others have done recently. I might slip in a bit of sarcasm but nothing malicious. In short I will continue my curmudgeon attitude and by doing so will enjoy myself. I don't want to see this site turned into a battleground so I will probably have to retreat if attacked. Now I will shut up before my beer gets warm.

And even though the Buckeyes lost, there are some known nuts on the site.
