For those of us who want to take the newer quizzes, can there not be a seperate place for the "monthly" quiz ? It not only irks me for the fact that it takes up all the space for new quizzes but what about the authors that do not stand a chance on being listed as new quizzes, they are losing points,i am losing fun. It is because you flood the site that i have not taken Any.Get a seperate place,i will take every one no matter how bad i do,lol.

I am slightly confused by this. How can the monthly quizzes take up the space of newer ones? They are in a different category all together.

The Community Quizzes (Monthly Quizzes) are in addition to the other quiz categories on the main page. They do not take the place of any other category, and the number of new quizzes in the other categories were not abbreviated to make room for the Community Quizzes. So, if they were listed somewhere else, the other lists wouldn't be any longer. Come on and take 'em anyway; it is fun to see how many different topics one quiz title can cover!

Perhaps it is the editing time spent which irks Greyghoust. The monthly quizzes are far from my favorite either but have tried a couple I liked If they were done away with(which they won't be) would not hurt my feelings in the least. My score is often pitiful when I can choose the category of the quiz let alone have it chosen for me-just my thoughts-Linda

If you don't want to take them, you can always use the time to search in the categories for older quizzes you might have missed - I'm sure many authors would appreciate that. The launching only lasts for a day or so.

I think Karen was referring to the list of Most Recent Quizzes, not the Category page. But my advice is, go to the Category page, not the Most Recent List when looking for new quizzes! They all have a "new" icon next to them!

Karen, you're missing out on some very good quizzes (if I do say so myself). Even when they appear on the NEW list they are quickly pushed down and off the list by new quizzes launching.

I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with the CQs; they're easy enough to avoid, but why? They're written by many of the same people who write all the regular quizzes; the writers of the CQs give up the opportunity to get EAs for what are generally excellent quizzes; the quiz taker gets an opportunity to experience a wide range of material on the same subject, thereby making it more memorable; the effort not to duplicate produces fun and imaginative quizzes. No one HAS to write or take them.

Okay, tell me again...what's the downside?

Well so far there haven't been in fun topics in the monthly quiz. Several had redundant content. I know there great effort put into them, but they may just not be everyone's cup of tea. I mostly avoid them.

The monthly CQs are taken from the waiting list as each author posts a message in Salty Dog (at the "FEBRUARY CQ LAUNCH MESSAGES" thread) that their quiz has been submitted.
When that quiz is edited, it goes to a "holding pen" to be released en masse with all the other CQs at the appointed date.

Of course, if there is a problem with a submitted CQ, and it needs to be returned to the author for more work, then it will not go to the "holding pen" till it is ready for release to the playing public.

Not all editors work on editing the CQ quizzes; some editors are always working through the regular list, so that there is no favoritism.

All the Community Quizzes have their own category (as Sploofinder said), so they cannot bump regular newly-released quizzes off the list.

You know, Fenixfelix, one of the things that makes the topic interesting is the different ways the various authors spin the same subject. This month, for example, even though the topic was the Natural World, there were quizzes about nudity, movies with the word Natural in their titles, celebrities and plastic surgery, disasters, specific animals, trees, as well as the sorts of topics that the title implies.

I don't do them all each month, but I do read the descriptions of each one. Since I know zero about pop culture, I leave those alone, but I find it interesting that people created on-topic quizzes that are so diverse.

Sorry all, naturally it came out all wrong,Suzer put it the way i meant to,ty Suzer.Gosh,i meant no harm, just the Canadian way of sayings things i guess. As far as the Monthly Quizzes goes,i think they are great, just have not found a subject that interests me. YET. As far as taking older Quizzes,i am having a ball taking them.
I believe this will be my last post,i thank the few who have taken up for me and understood what i was trying to say.Maybe if people just asked me instead of jumping down my throat the site would be much more fun for me and encourage me to try the Quizzes.??,Just a thought, take care everyone, god bless, keep safe.

Karen, I hope you didn't think I was jumping down your throat. It was NOT intended that way even the smallest bit and I apologize if it felt that way to you. Everything I said was intended only to be encouragement for the quizzes because I think they're a really neat feature that's underutilized and underappreciated.

I look at them as a magazine and look forward to their arrival every month. I've only participated as a writer twice; direct competition within prescribed limits inspired me to create solid, original quizzes. From the quality of the other quizzes it seems to have that general effect. It took me a couple months to get on board too, because I thought they would be repetitive and unimaginative, but I was proven wrong, and they've turned out to be IN MY OPINION generally better as a group than any other category.

So again, I only meant my comments as encouragement about the quizzes, not criticism of you.
