GIF VS JPG

Can someone explain the difference to me between a Gif image and a Jpg. Is a Gif larger? I'm just currious about this. Any help appreciated.

Annie:

Here's a web page with a really good description of gif and jpg (and png):

http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Internet/2002/JPG_GIF_PNG.asp

Hope it's useful to you.

Thanks for the help, Jeanne. It did help. Wonder though, why so many b&w images are in gif format instead of jpg. When according to what you sent me and I read jpg is really the best.

On an overly-simplified basis: GIFs often have elements that move, whereas JPEGs/JPGs are static.
