Something we should all think about...

The Best Prayer I Have Heard In A Long Time...

Heavenly Father, Help us remember
That the jerk who cut us off in traffic
Last night is a single mother who
Worked nine hours that day and
Is rushing home to cook dinner,
Help with homework,
Do the laundry and spend a
Few precious moments
With her children.

Help us to remember that the
Pierced, tattooed, disinterested
Young man who can't make
Change correctly is a worried
19-year-old college student,
Balancing his apprehension
Over final exams with his
Fear of not getting his
Student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord,
That the scary looking bum,
Begging for money in the same
Spot every day (who really ought
To get a job!) is a slave to addictions
That we can only imagine in our
Worst nightmares.

Help us to remember that the
Old couple walking annoyingly
Slow through the store aisles
And blocking our shopping
Progress are savoring this
Moment, knowing that,
Based on the biopsy report
She got back last week, this
Will be the last year that they
Go shopping together.

Heavenly Father,
Remind us each day that,
Of all the gifts you give us,
The greatest gift is love.

It is not enough to share
That love with those
We hold dear

Open our hearts not just to
Those who are
Close to us,
But to all humanity.

Let us be slow to judge
And quick to forgive,
Show patience,
Empathy and

That is a beautiful prayer, and one we all should be mindful of, and thank you for sharing. You have a great day!

Thank you for the prayer. If it could drop the "Father" bit, it would be perfect. But then my boss says that if I don't stop judging people (and things) I'll have to return as a biped. And I don't want to. So I'll accept and appreciate it just as it is!

Feel free to change Father to Mother. I frequently refer to God as 'She'. It helps me to realize that God is beyond gender identification. I've always believed that it is the root of sexism to insist on seeing God as a Male figure.

I had a preacher tell me once that it 'wouldn't matter if you saw God as a Black, Hispanic, Jewish, Lesbian'. It is still the same loving God.

I am not a bible quoting, be-afraid-of-God religious zealot. I just believe that we best live our lives by loving each other. That simple.

Aslan, I hope I didn't offend you. I only meant to bring a little levity to a profound subject.

As for the gender issue, I offer this story. When my daughter was 3, she asked if God was male or female. I tried to explain the concept of "both, but more than that, even" and she couldn't get it. So I told her to ask God herself. She folded her hands and closed her eyes for a little while. When she emerged, she said "She said She's a SHE!"
