A few weeks ago I noticed that one of our members had started taking my quizes. He scored 0 percent on every quiz he took. To make it even stranger, if I looked at how he did on the quiz, the page showed that he never registered an incorrect answer--or any answer at all. In fact, it seems like he just pushed the answer button ten times. That seemed to make sense since he'd get through each quiz in 12 to 14 seconds.

Well, that really puzzled me, but I didn't think too much about it. Probably some glitch somewhere, I thought. Yesterday, though, I happened to look at the quiz taking leaderboard and --lo and behold--that same person is sitting at the top of the list with an almost unimaginable number of points. Suddenly it dawned on me what's happening. He's clawed his way to the top by just running through the quizes and taking the 100 base points for each.

The more I thought about it, the stranger it seemed. Why on earth would somebody expend that amount of effort to reach the top of the board when it means absolutely nothing to anybody. There are no prizes, there is no money and there's not even any recognition. Sploofus stopped awarding all expense paid trips to Hawaii decades ago. How many people even remember the past winners--or the celebrations we've given them? I bet the answer is nobody.

I continue to be amazed at the almost infinite variety of odd behavior people are capable of displaying.

No lie. At least he tips well.

Absolutely unbelievable that a human being would waste so much time and energy to accomplish nothing!

I noticed that also - that someone had scored zero on a bunch of my quizzes. He took some oldies - that's how I thought to look. I was just worried that if he scored zero he would have given me a bad rating. I never followed it up with your detective work, though. People are definitely strange!

Whatever floats your boat.

If this behaviour that we consider odd brings pleasure to someone, what's the harm? If, as we are saying, the top position is meaningless, why worry if someone beats you out for it?

I just hope that person gives everyone a 9!

Sure wish he'd take some of my quizzes if he tips well!

I'm just amazed at the amount of time and effort he put into this. It isn't easy to accumulate that amount of points. He's got to work at it day and night.

There is no accounting for the number of oddballs in the world. I think this player took a few of my quizzes and I thought the person was either stupid or didn't know the subject very I've done more than just a few times! However, I think the person is more to be pitied than scorned.

Oh I don't know. Shouldn't we admire someone so grimly determined? We should gaze with admiration that person who finds a niche in life that only he can fill and then, singlemindedly, strives to be the best.

Our friend soldiers on. He just took another of my quizes, Clutching his 100 points, he continued, full of sound and fury, towards his destiny.

Maybe the automoatic points you get just for breathing should be done away with. One would have to finish a quiz and be happy with the points you get!

I, for one, was glad to see the quiz-scoring system change for the quiz takers, and not just for the quiz authors. Even with the current system, the author is favored to get more points than a taker, especially for quizzes with a 4 or more difficulty rating.

This is just an aberration, and as Aslan says, so what?

Who really wasted more time? The person who clicked through the quiz in 10 seconds, or the person who read every word?

At the end of the day, if someone is on a personal mission to rattle through quizzes with a score of 0, and if they rate it relatively high then the authors of those quizzes will benefit from a higher rating and a higher difficulty rating thus gathering more points.

It's funny how we tend to assign the most negative interpretation to things.

It can be a healthy mental exercise to image a scenario that allows us to be more compassionate.

Imagine that this person is physically or mentally challenged in some way that makes clicking enter the easiest thing they can do. Rather than be an outsider, it is a way for them to see their name as part of the winners list.

I know, I know. I'm such a polyanna.

Well, looks like he did it. Through a steadfast determination to not answer 10s of thousands of questions and remain focused on his dream, he stands atop the leaderboard as the month ends. Bring out the laural wreaths and the anointing oils...
