As Grand Solicitor, I have been very lax in my duties regarding the cookbook for a month or so. Vick, I do have your recipes, and all others received on cookbook threads, in the messaging system, and in my personal e-mail box. I did not just pick up recipes that were on non-related threads. I didn't have time to dig. If you want the recipe in the book, please send it to me.

Many apologies, but I've been preparing myself for an audition at a nearby summer stock theatre, and then preparing my drama students for THEIR audition for the spring play I'm directing, and then finishing a script for a madrigal dinner for which rehearsals have already commenced. More information than you need to know. I could have sufficed it to say that my life was full of drama, but I've heard that some people don't mean it literally when they say it.

Ok. Ramble done.

However, to give those of you who put things off and those of you who are seeing this for the first time a chance to make a contribution, I'm extending the long aforementioned deadline of March 21st. (ok, ramble not COMPLETELY done!)

Please have all recipes to me by April 15th.

Here's what I have so far.
2 appetizers
6 sides
2 main dishes
3 breads
1 soup
1 salad
5 cakes/pies/puddings
1 diabetic/special diet
2 sauces

I'm thinking we need some more variety, yes?

I've already done some work in my test kitchen, and I have to say the results were delicious. I need more, though. Send as many as you'd like. I've set no limit. I do ask that they be your own. (I mean, don't just go to the food network site and copy and paste a recipe from there. If you've changed it in some way to make it your own, then that's fine.)

Again: by April 15th.

A great response, you guys, but we still need more! I created a stupendous salad this evening that I'm including in the book. Any other recent creations that need to be included?

Just keeping the thread current.

March Food Trivia:

Eighteen ounces of an average cola drink contain as much caffeine as a cup of coffee.

The candies most likely to cause tooth decay are dark chocolate and fudge. Those least likely to damage the teeth are nut- or coconut covered candies.

Peanut butter was invented by St. Louis physician Ambrose Straub, who, concerned about the nutrition of his elderly, toothless patients, concocted a health-food product that was high in protein and easily digestible.

Celery has negative calories. It takes more calories to eat a piece of celery than the celery has in it to begin with.

The original filling in Twinkies was banana. It was replaced by vanilla-flavored cream during World War II, when the United States experienced a banana shortage.
