I just got this message in response to one of my "3rd grader should know this" quizzes from someone who just joined today and according to his/her profile "Rates other players quizzes an average: 3.00"

"Dear Maurlin:
i dont know this crap and i highly dought a 3rd grader does!!!

I'm tempted to respond with something to the effect that 3rd graders certainly know how to spell doubt, but I'm working hard to just ignore the comment. My question is one that has been raised on Chat before...can we bar certain individuals from taking our quizzes?

There is definetly something ironic about someone saying they don't know about 3rd grade stuff and then badly spelling the word 'doubt'.

Anyway I wouldn't worry to much about it, as you said they are a new member, and some new members tend to be over critical when they do badly.

Maurlin, your quizzes are great and I know how honest you are and if you say that 3rd graders should know the answers then they will. Whoever sent this message was just being mean, so don't worry about it.

However, I would suggest not deleting their message and if in the future they send you another 'derogatory' message then perhaps reporting the messages may be an option.

I 'DOUGHT' that you can block someone from taking your quizzes though. lol

I have gotten very few sarcastic messages, but know how you feel about the rudeness. You're tempted to respond. The thing of it is Linda, if you do respond, and they're vindictive, they could take some more of your quizzes and rate them low. I have checked out a person's profile who has taken my quizzes at various times, and find they rate everyone's a 3.00 something or even 5.00 something without the dreaded red "Bomber Alert". I have never understood people being allowed to rate that low anyway. It seems to me if a quiz is that bad it wouldn't pass the Editors to be released. I wish there was a way to block them. You know when it shows up in their profile that they rate everyone's that way, there must be something wrong. Maybe when Justin gets time he will change the rating system where quiz takers are not allowed to rate below a certain reasonable level. It is really disheartening after writing a quiz to have someone do you that way. Evidently they are not on the site for enjoyment. Hope this can be resolved for you Linda!

You have some of the best quizzes on Sploofus. i am sure that you have received many messages of praise. I know that I've sent you some myself.

Why let one agressive malcontent spoil your day? His karma, not yours.

Keep up the excellent work.

I hope that author will be pleasantly surprised about what he learns once he makes it into third grade.

Surely that should be 'IF' he makes it into third grade.

Maurlin, your quizzes are the best. We should never be disrespectful to one another and that's not the way 99% of Sploofusers behave. Try to ignore it, even though it makes you upset...I don't blame you at all.

Hey you guys...I really, honestly, didn't post for the purpose of getting really nice, sweet feedback (although it sure made me happy reading it!!!) I've also gotten my share of negative comments about my can't please everyone all the time, and all that. I actually found the comment kind of amusing, considering the spelling and punctuation. I do tend to check out the home pages of some of the people who send messages.

The things that concerned me was that (1)it was this person's first day on the site and (2) of the 3 quizzes he had taken, the average rating was 3. I'm hoping he (since I now feel certain it was a male) doesn't venture into Chat, see this, and really bomb my quizzes.

Gee. I thought 1 was the best.... and 9....well, I always hated placing ninth in track, especially out of 8 places..., so all this time I thought i was trashing you people and I was actually giving you a high score !?!?

Maurlin, I thought it would be interesting to take that particular quiz with my daughter who is in the third grade. She felt a little discouraged but we used her weak areas to look things up and discuss them. It was fun for both of us. She can't spell the word "doubt" but it's probably because she attends a Waldorf school, and they don't begin reading and spelling until 2nd to 3rd grade. (She taught herself to read, though, and I've had to confiscate the New Yorker and the newspaper from her when she was reading about subjects I thought were inappropriate.)

I should get to the point. I love your quizzes; don't let some poor person who feels inadequate take it out on you!

Oh, I just asked my daughter if she could spell "doubt" and she promptly did. I shouldn't have doubted her.

If he/she continues to rate quizzes poorly then he/she will earn a bomber alert and at the end of the week his/her ratings will be backed out of individual quiz ratings. I think that's how Justin described it.

BTW, Maurlin, no need to be insecure. Your quizzes are among the best on the site!!

Bless your heart, that would have driven me crazy! Just reading how they spelled "doubt" would have been enough to throw me over the edge. I also think calling someone's quiz crap is a violation of TOS (offensive content) and that person needs to be ousted.

Hey Maurlin, do you feel like disclosing the offenders screen name? I have also received rude comments. I was just wondering if it is the same guy....

By the way, I really enjoy your quizzes, so disregard those rude comments!
