CURIOUS

I ave a quiz with 106 takers which went live on 4/3. My average rating is 7.8. Just wonder what the formula is for 25 most popular-know the increase is rapid once it is there-but what the current formula for getting there?-Linda

How's about a little patience? Your 3 posts within an hour come across as very demanding and confrontational. An editor has to see your post before they can answer it.

From the "Your Quizzes" page:

"The number of points you receive is proportional to the quizzes difficulty rating as well as the average rating of all of your quizzes. The higher your quizzes are rated, the more points you get each time one of your quizzes is taken! To calculate this number, we multiply your Total Average Quiz Rating by 10, and then multiply that by the quizzes Difficulty Index."

Gee, I'm sorry - I just needed to go to the grocery store!

Also, as an FYI, when editors are working on the administrative side of Sploofus (editing, writing WP's, dealing with support tickets, discussing issues raised by members) we cannot easily cross back to the public side of things. I can only recommend patience!

Another FYI, at any given time there seems to be somewhere between 2 and 10 editors online. This is an extremely informal observation and not a scientifically researched statistic.

As to your question Heidi, I don't think anyone but Justin knows the EXACT formula. All I know is that there IS a formula and it automatically runs. I would GUESS that it is run once a day...and whichever quizzes fit appear on the Top 25 list. Someone more observant than I may notice how often a new quiz shows up on the list. Currently I see that the 25th entry has 173 takers and a rating average of 7.5.

Sorry I cannot be any more helpful than that.

Your sarcasm is accepted. Think it just should be stated by Justin, if necessary, what the rules are. We play this game, at at least I do, and trust. Things like this make me wonder. I think i am a nice person but do not appreciate being belittled by you or anyone else-Linda

I don't believe my post had one ounce of sarcasm attached nor did I belittle you in any way. I'm sorry if you read something into my post that was not intended.

If you have an idea for an improvement of this website, such as publicly stating the formula for how the Top 25 list is achieved, the proper format for doing that is through a support ticket.

Justin does NOT regularly read these BBS posts.

I have begged for an eternity for top 25 to be eliminated-perhaps replaced with a a "top" number in individual categories-Sorry if I offended you-but believe either elimination or explanation for qualification necessary. I write primarily quizzes that have to do with movie genre-have a chance of making top 25-which I think is wrong. Those who write in the arts, Technology and such don't stand a chance in you know what-Linda

Linda:
I am sure you are a nice person. It seems as if you are having an off day. I hope things settle down for you a little.
Peace

Thank you, Asian for saying you believe me to be a nice person. The problem is I do not believe this is simply a "bad" day for me. Believe there is an issue thing that should be addressed-either change in policy or explanation of the system- think you a nice person too,Asian-just believe that answers to members should be given-Linda

As far as I can see, it's a combination of number of takers and rating - one with a higher rating but a few less takers may be above another one time, another time one with more takers but a slightly lower rating with be above.

And as mentioned in another thread, only quizzes within 10 days of being released are eligible, so even the number 1 quiz will fall off the top 25 when its 10 days are up. The positions/which quizzes are there are definitely updated once a day - I have a quiz on there at the moment, and although the number of takers changes as the day goes on its position on the list only changes once a day.

I'm pretty certain that the top 25 list is automatically calculated (ie it's not done by a person), so there can be no question of favouritism, but of course, if you have a quiz that has both equivalent numbers of takers AND as good a rating within its first 10 days as those on the top 25, but yours is not, then your best bet seems to be to tell Justin (via a support ticket).

If I ask for change and nothing happens, I just figure the answer was "no".

At the risk of appearing impertinent, I will note from experience that the list is updated once a day, seeming in the dark, dank hours of the night. I would look at the list and see how many are coming off during the next update. It would be the ones launched on 3/27, since march had 31 days. If it is more than two or three, I would expect your quiz will be on the chart in the morning.
