NEW "LATIN PHRASES" CATEGORY?

I hope that's not up for consideration!

Kravfighter keeps posting Latin phrases and I am SO lost...

Anyone have a Latin-English dictionary I can borrow?

Sorry, can't help you. I took it for 2 years in school, in England, (it was mandatory) but that was so loooooong ago, I've haven't got a clue now.

The only one I keep using is the one I found and suggested for the motto of the Land of Sploofus in doobie's first message: Ipsa scientia potestas est. It means "Knowledge itself is power!"

I am such a Latin dunce that I didn't even recognize that it was the same phrase. LOL!

I also suggested translating the "Brain food...MMM good!" slogan and philkon (because he knows everything) and others made some attempts at that (see land of sploofus thread).

Why not a Weather Words catagory. There seemed to have been and endless supply of those. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I doubt the ACLU will help get back my Bible Trivia. Quack!!!!!!!!

I better not see these Latin words showing up on wordrounds or I'm in big trouble.

Just for Felix:

I did almost twice as many quizzes on American Indian Tribal Name Meanings.

I think Latin is a beautiful language. The language itself may be dead but a lot of it is still used today. It is on our money in the USA. It has been used recently in some very popular childrens books. A little knowledge of Latin could be some fun trivia.

Latin is a language
as dead as dead can be
it killed the ancient Romans
and now it's killing me.

What about an Ancient History (or just plain History) section?
