Well, the 15th has come and gone... I wore my Adult Diapers as recommended by the Alchemist... I was prepared for something amazing to happen... I canceled my open heart surgery. I skipped my daughter's wedding. I wasn't there when my wife got pregnant, all to Sploofus on the 15th.
Did I miss something?

At least I signed up for Beta.... By 2am CST, so I guess I was done with the whole "Where will YOU be on April 15th" thing by about 2.02am CST.

So the answer was "Where will YOU be on April 15th? Same place I was on April 14th."

Oh, well. It's not as if I wasn't satisfied to begin with. I like Sploofus as is. Perhaps I'll love it more with changes, who knows... But if all the hype tied to April 15th is any indication of what the changes will be, I'm not gonna get too worked up thinking about it.......

It was anticlimactic, I agree. I am still hopeful though, that when the promised email comes, I will like whatever it turns out to be. I'll sigh with you, Tex . . . . s.i.g.h. . . . . I guess we will wait and see.

The ones of us who did register have to wait on an email, password and some kind of link before we actually find anything out, which hasn't happened so far, but is supposed to happen sometime this week. Once it's available to us, my understanding is that the Beta part is something like a trial for everyone to rate, report any errors or problems, before it is available to everyone, and I think the trial part will be going on this week. As far as the Ker-Blunk, I think Justin has already said in a post that it would be available on the new version of Sploofus. This is all I know or at least think I know. Otherwise, we're still pretty much in the dark too. Someone else may have something to add.

I agree with the hype. I couldn't hardly sleep Saturday night waiting on the big change, and kept checking in expecting to be transported to a new dimension, but alas nothing happened. I finaly fell asleep dreaming of a special trivia world with Ker-Blunk readily available to all, and endless trivia flowing from a word colored mountain, but when I awoke all I found was a link with promised things still yet to come. I to say Siiiigggghhhh!!!!

JUSTIN got me hyped with these words in this post:

Expired Rounds, WordPuzzle Blanks, et. al.
Hey folks,

I'm still hacking away whenever I have the opportunity on these scripts... the errors still appear but I am getting closer to solving them. But none of this will be of any consequence on 4/15.

Because everything will change, then.

and this:
Embrace change.

Over 6 months of new development will be unveiled on the island Sunday... and when the smoke clears, the mist fades into the salty air, you will find yourself upon an oasis like no other.

I promise I will not have my foot in my mouth in Philly.

Your appreciation of the island as it exists today is awesome. It is only for players such as yourself that I have spent the time to create something very special -- hope you are HERE on 4/15...

The only thing I can tell you that is NOT going to happen is this:

There will NOT be a change of management/ownership. And, unfortunately, there is still no money honey, corporate sponsor, or the like. 4/15 is a result of our collective blood, sweat, and tears.

As for time of day - I can't tell you!

You'll note that the island will experience an effect very similar to that of the Philadelphia experiment just before the mist fades and reveals the secret... and it has nothing to do with Sploophilly, either.

Now that the 16th is here again I Siiiggghhh!!! lol

It is obvious that programming or other issues delayed the rollout. That happens. I just wish it was not presented as a 'this is the way we planned it to happen' kind of thing.

Trusting us with the truth and an honest explanation would have been a lot more respectful to all of us who have shown that same kind of respect to Justin.

Statistics cheapen the point, but nearly 100,000 NEW lines of code have been written for Sploofus v2.0. This new code is for new games, features, enhancements, etc. The already existing code was basically rebuilt from scratch so that the existing games will function more smoothly. Additionally, the ENTIRE graphical user interface and navigation structure (GUI) has been rebuilt.

My intention was to simply release version 2.0 on the production servers yesterday.

At the final hour, I made the decision that this would be reckless. The new code needs to be "load tested" to ensure that it won't flake under the pressure of approximately 30,000 users per day.

The metrics gathered through the beta process will guarantee a working set of Sploofus 2.0 games and features. This beta will also offer an A/B comparison for our paying members which will allow you to be involved in the transition from old to new.

Here is an interesting side note: Microsoft employs nearly 100,000 software engineers - and released its latest product (Vista) nearly 1 full year after the promised delivery date. I code Sploofus alone - I have no network engineers, no graphic designers, no programmers, no QA team, and no project managers.

Since the new games, features, and GUI are ready to go - it is killing me to not just throw it on the servers. I've learned in the past not to QA my software on the production servers.

So, now you know "the rest of the story". If I did have some huge corporate team of programmers and developers (had I been Microsoft), you would have received the following message on 4/15:

"Due to unforeseen production delays we are postponing today's scheduled deployment to a date which has yet to be determined."

As *most* of us know, Sploofus is not some corporate entity. That point has its ups and downs. I personally am very happy with the current situation, and look forward to an enlightening beta process followed by a coordinated, stable release of features that are unlike anything on any other web site, period. Please hang in there, and you'll see what I mean.

Thank you,

Don't you just hate whiners? Oh wait I was one of them lol. Sorry Justin I was just so excited over something new on Sploofus Island I was heartbroken to see we were gonna have to wait a while longer.

I have no idea, and can only imagine how hard it must be to create, and maintain such an ever-changing web site with so many personalities, and I often forget it is a one-man-show. So please accept my impatient apology, and ROCK-ON O Alchemist Supreme.

Justin, thank you for your Condor... No... a condor is a large bird... Thanks for your camphor... no... Camphor is a very aromatic crystalline substance from the Cinnamonum camphora tree. Thanks for your canter... nope, thats a controlled, three-beat gait performed by a horse.

ANYhoo... thanks for being straight up with us... I understand the stress you have, not because I am a programmer , but because I attempted once to create a for profit cockroach farm. Branding them with branding irons was probably similar to creating Sploofus by yourself. ( you can't be too careful of cockroach rustlers out there...)

Perhaps a little less hype would have been appropriate....

We love you and your silly little self. We shall continue Sploofing. It is, and remains, my daily respite against the great evils of the world.

I look forward to being your "lab-test monkey" aka Beta tester...

I re-read my apology, and it is sincere, but I agree with "texlewee" as well. I think when you realized it wasn't going to be a go, an explanation would have been great, and accepted much better than silence, and a link.

I am sure you are aware that at least mtself love the site so much that the promise of it even being greater had us all on pins, and needles with anticipation, and I am sure I am not the only one who was up half the night, and signed in bright, and early to see the promised changes only to find a link and another promise.

We I believe at least most of us are a very understanding lot. With that said bring on the Beta, I can't wait to give it a go.

Thank You for the honesty Justin, and for not wanting to release something to us that you didn't feel was up to Sploofus standards. I'll be right here waiting and always on your side, I love this place. And IF the new stuff comes with some glitches, I'm sure we'll get thru' those too. And again, my utmost respect to you for your honesty.

I see no reason to be surprised. Each small step has had its sploofusion. I think it is wise to be careful ... and especially wise for Justin to keep his sanity. Imagine if he had taken a long walk and gotten lost ... hit by an errant dive bomber ... been the subject of a terrorist ... never mind. With so many eggs in one basket we know enough not to order them scrambled. Allena

Free beer and peanuts in the lounge would be a particularly magnanimous touch while we are waiting...hint, hint, wink, wink, nod, nod.

I shall be patient....I shall be patient....I shall be patient....I shall no longer sit trying to think of ways of getting my boss to give me a case of Vault soda syrup and a box of coffee concentrate and have him write it off as a charitable donation. LOL I think they have banned me from touching the coffee machine or the Vault buttons on the soda machines anyway after Sunday....I tell ya I was wired for sound baby!! I'll keep my whiny grumblings after coming down off my caffeine high to myself from now on. I know you work your rear end off on this site and I greatly appreciate it.

The chips, the salt, the limes and maybe some extra tequila! Justin might be awhile, especially if he stops by your place for some refreshment.

As a former programmer and teacher of programming languages, I agree it is better to beta test before you release the new system to the general public. I can assure any non-programmers that many hours of writing and testing, and writing and testing again have already happened. When you get to the point of beta testing, the hardest part is behind you.

I will try to wait patiently a while longer because I know, from personal experience, how hard it is to meet programming deadlines and how easily unexpected problems can crop up at the last minute to keep you from meeting those deadlines.

Keep up the good work Justin!
