hi all, i was just checking out the leaderboard-first place is over 300,000,000.... wow!

does anyone other than me remember when first place on the leaderboard was UNDER 1,000,000. when i first became a member, everybody had under a million points. This site has improved and changed alot since then. there were also much fewer members then too. i love this site and have enjoyed watching it evolve... does any other longtime member remember when the leaders on the leaderboard were all under 1,000,000?

Aye matey! I remember my heart skipping a beat when the first person passed the 1,000 point mark. For the first few months of Sploofus' life, the TQOTD was worth 10 points. With a good time you might get a bonus of 2 or 3 extra points.

Does anybody remember those days? (The current point system was adopted in July of 2004)...

and the top point award for wordrounds was only 1,000....

Talking of the old days - what about a new badge (ie for the chat boards underneath the name) for those over a year - the highest at present is 40 weeks.

Did Netman leave or change his id - he always seemed to be at the top of the board with wengeruk.

It has changed a lot since I started June 2004 - and all for the better.

and authors got virtually nothing for writing quizzes

You're quite right, Tuzilla...I'd love to see authors getting more points for their quizzes.

Sadly, I'm an old-timer and I'm _still_ under 1,000,000 points. I almost got over the hump the other day, but blew a wager question stupidly. I _knew_ the answer, and somehow convinced myself I was wrong, so picked something else. Not a good day.

Who is the longest serving member? I remember seeing Machiabelly (it's a memorable name) when I joined - anybody prior 21st june 2004.

How did someone join a whole year before anyone else?

Oh, and yay me in the top ten

You must be reading that as a European date, Machiabelly...It's month/day/year.

I came into the fold in August of 2004...and I'm still under 1,000,000 points. Oh, well.

I joined in September of 2004 and went gold in December of 2004....I've seen alot of changes here too....Some good ,some bad but one thing about it I've made some really good friends here...On the list I saw there may be only 3 or 4 of the original members still here...
Altho I didn't see Dariana's name on your list anywhere...she's was here almost from the beginning too.

According to the profile, Dariana joined on 7/13/2004, just a few days after my rather arbitrary cutoff point...

Like Will I also found Sploofus in August 2004 but I was in the top 100 on the Leaderboard once upon a time. Oh, well, its all in the game.

Did someone wake up Felix, huh? Give him back his badges, wind-up mousy and catnip willya?

I joined in January of this year, and was told about it by great buddy Justin - the sploofman himself. I was immediately hooked. The TQOTD is the first thing i do at work everyday. It's always amazing to watch the total number of members grow.

I've always found this interesting--there are lots of people on the Leaderboards that I never see playing WRs or WPs. I don't see puzzles by them either. I guess they got there through QOTDs and through making judicious wagers and perhaps showdowns. I am not doubting that they are excellent players. For my part, I do WRs and WPs faithfully, write puzzles, take puzzles, and make maximum wagers on TQOTD whenever my category comes up. Yet not matter what I do I slide down the rankings--until I get another wager token and another question in my category. What I'm leading up to is--do TQOTD wagers play too large a part in points earned? Shouldn't the players who are well-rounded and participate in most, if not all, areas of Sploofus be the ones who are most rewarded? Or am I missing something? Again, I am not trying to cast aspersions on anyone who is on the leaderboards. When I look at their profiles, I am in awe of their stats.

I'm not so sure. I got to the top 10 mostly by word rounds, trivia quizzes and showdowns. It wasn't until I was in or around the top 10 that I started using my stash of wager tokens and since then, I have just kept using them to stay in that place. Since reaching a billion points, I have to admit that I haven't played very many word rounds or word puzzles, nor taken very many trivia quizzes since the points are just not there. I still enjoy coming on to read the forums, and I take the trivia quizzes that interest's just that I don't compete in the other areas like I once did.

I've got the same story as Rnmorg. I used to play the Word Rounds fanatically and write and take a lot of quizzes. When Word Matches came out, I played those for a while, but with a recent cross-country move and a 3 month old baby, I haven't had the same amount of time to play as I used to. I have always wagered the maximum amount with wager tokens and used to use quite a few showdown tokens. Once you get close to the top, though, you don't get a lot of variety in showdown challengees, so I only use those tokens occasionally now.

If I remember rightly made top 100 before turning gold (I was quite proud of that). It was the ability to write more quizzes and play WP that persuaded me to go gold. Then the wagers started kicking in and I was hooked!
Showdowns play less and less part as your score goes up. The rather arbitrary cutoff makes them almost irrelevant --the 10% threshold is restricted much earlier than the wager upper limit.
2.0 will change all that!.... maybe

And fer sher, there's no way I'm going to challenge any of these guys to a showdown. Judicious wagering is the biggest point collector, and after a certain level, the amount we win on a wager is limited. I was also an avid Word Rounder and quiz taker and adore the friends I've made here. My job has grown tremendously recently and my time is far more limited. Rnmorg is my daughter and Kravfighter is like a daughter to me; we all stay in touch daily and are always interested in how Sploofus is doing. Finally, after all these years, I have Rnmorg interested in gardening, and I can bribe her, with plants from my garden, to come visit me so I know where a lot more of her precious spare time is going. As life changes, so does your allocation of time and resources.

Interesting responses. I can certainly appreciate that as our lives change, our priorities do too. I was so stoked about making the top 100, but it has been a struggle to stay there. Unbelievable that you were able to do it, Barry, before going gold. Best of luck to you all!

I just noticed that the leaderboard archive stats haven't been updated since May- are they not going to be updated until 2.0 is here?
