THE WONDERFUL OSCAR WILDE

Watch for an incorrect spelling of a location.

If it's the one I think you're talking about, there are two very similar locations. One has an additional letter at the end, but is a different place. In the case of this WP, the correct location and spelling are used.

The one I was talking about erroneously had an extra letter on the end, but I have been informed, by virtue of a support ticket, that the issue has been resolved.

As the official taste tester for sploofus beverage transactions, it was routed to me. I will forward it along as soon as I have finished the sampling process, under the assumption it passes.

I just hope that the puzzle wasn't changed to the version with the extra letter, as that location is not related to Oscar Wilde.

Had a wrong article in a title in one of mine. Didn't cause me a problem, just thought I'd point it out.

I loved it as well but no one has mentioned what I thought was a misquote... only a few minutes left before I can post it

Puzzle: Oscar Wilde said he put genius into his life and only talent into his books.

After doing the puzzle, I searched for Oscar Wilde quotes... every one I came up with showed: "I put all my genius into my life; I put only my talent into my works"

The puzzle was a lot of fun. I think he was great man for his time.

Lisa, I think it was meant to paraphrase the quote; read it as though there are no quotation marks in the sentence. My quibble was that the puzzle gave a title incorrectly as "The" and it's actually "A."

Oscar's curse was to be born ahead of his time. It was a time (and place) that greatly valued wit, but was tragically hypocritical about sexuality; I don't think there can be any doubt that it shortened his life. There are lessons in his story that are still incompletely learned.

Thanks Donna.. I must admit I'm not well versed in Wilde but.. I do know that he wrote poems, plays, etc., not just books.

All in all, it doesn't really matter - it's just a word puzzle, not the end of the world, right? I still enjoy doing them (even if I was better at them earlier in my Sploofus career lol).

Actually he only wrote the one book, some short stories and fairy tales, and the plays. Here's a wee taste of the wonderfulness and depth of his mind:
