WP'S AND WR'S

Before someone says I'm expressing sour grapes - I'm not - I'm absolutely flabbergasted and amazed that there are some sploofers continually manage to acheive 12 -15 second scores - think I even saw a 10 second score yesterday..that a person's mind and fingers can work that fast blow my mind. I know for a fact that most of us won't ever get that unless by fluke.

That being said - I know for me it gets so frustrating acheiving a really great score only to be knocked down...SO MAYBE the Sploofus PTB could come up with a Speedy and Not So Speedy - Lightening Fast WR's for those super duper speedsters - give them their own personal challenge to compete with each other, and give us poor slowpokes a fighting change for the elusive 1,2 and 3 spots.

Give them some special kind of bling too - I would think it would be fun and challenging for them too - I would imagine it gets old "always" winning - give 'em something to go for that most of us won't ever get. (Maybe a badge with a lightening bolt through it!)

I know what I'm risking by posting this - try not to let the tomatoes fly too hard please

You make a good point Kaelin.

I still believe that a lot of the speed has to do with the type of connection and the processor of the computer one uses. That said, some people are just really great at Word Rounds.

I too feel like there is no chance to do better sometimes.

I think I remember that Justin is working on something, perhaps as part of the 2.0 Beta, that will even things out. I think it was some kind of Java thing.

Fact is, I'm becoming a little doubtful that we'll ever see 2.0.

Anyone else know anything?

I don't see it as sour grapes. I stand in amazement of folks who can flip through those puzzles like they were shucking corn. Meanwhile, the rare sub-30 second finish for me is grounds to break into Tex's scotch!

The idea of a super-badge is intriguing. Not sure if it might be a little extra work on the volunteers, and since unless I get a faster computer I'll never have a dog in this fight I'll leave it to them.

But an interesting proposal....

I agree - but I can also say that I get better speed at home on my dial up connection than I do where I lease my office space from for my business (since it's mine I can play w/o getting in trouble LOL) which has cable - it's like I get so fast the puzzles don't light up the dots until I'm down 3 or 4 -- then I have to sit and wait for it to catch up or risk doing what I've done, submitting before all the dots have registered.

I guess connection is part - but for me it's the opposite.

I love going in - have enjoyed meeting the people I've met - Definitely neat people at Sploofus!

Ahhh but you WILL see 2.0

I'm now working with a 2nd developer and will release it after everything is perfect as opposed to setting a superficial date.

More updates to come!

Justin

I'll trust Justin - I know from 10 years of web development & programming - it might "seem" an easy task - but it's not. Working bugs out is always the last thing - which is where beta testers come in.

UPFRONT! If you don't like bugs - Beta testing will irritate you - but feedback - even the little bugs will be important for making it all wonderful.

I look forward to seeing it...and glad we aren't the ones programming it -

Kaelin you brought up an excellent idea in your post. Divisions for the ultra-quick, the quick and the not-so-quick with play-offs within the divisions would be fabulous. I know alot more people would come around and play WRs more often if they weren't discouraged by the 10 second folks!

There are a lot of good ideas people come up with that would be fun!

Right now, I'm hoping that Sploofus does not add any more new ideas to 2.0, so that the developers can make perfect what is already planned.

Otherwise ...

I think that's a great idea, Kaelin! - something like, maybe:

- a starters division where you automatically go when you first start playing;
- an intermediate one where you're promoted to when you get, say, 10 or so 100% rounds with sub-30 second times within a set period of time or number of games (so it's not just a fluke, or over 2 years or something!); and
- a hi-flyers division the same of sub-15 second times.

And a leaderboard, prizes, etc per game for all three divisions; different coloured, maybe, to differentiate between them on the profile pages and such.

As someone who gave up all hopes of ever being able to do more than very occasionally scrape onto 10th position by playing a rare brilliant game when it's really quiet and nobody else is playing (downhill and with a following wind, as they say), I'd be far more likely to try again if something like this was in operation!

FYI- I just got a 90% in "11.03 sec"... it wasn't really 11 seconds though. It was quick but not THAT quick- I sent in a support ticket about it, because there are timing glitches in other respects so I think this may be one of those!

There is nothing we, as editors, can do to rectify that. You will just have to take the points and like it...lol. Hopefully 2.0 will resolve these and a couple other common glitches.

T'other night I saw Markieboy get this:

WR #20604 markieboy (3.6 s.)

He was just as flabbergasted as the rest of us! It was some kinda glitch, for sure.

There is no doubt time glitches sometimes - I have not PERSONALLY ever had one LOL - 19. something is my best time and I know I earned it - but there are several that have have over 1100 first place finishes with the kind of times I'm talking about - no glitch there - just super speedy fingers and brains that scientists would probably love to study -- 3.6 - wow - definitely had to be a glitchie!
