but I'd rather be dumb now than be dumb and craft a quiz that can't be used, so....

As long as the quiz this month has something to do with Fictional Characters, it's fair game?

And other than being amazingly obtuse, how does one prevent from tromping on someone else's idea?

If I have read your note correctly, you have expressed a concern regarding the repetative idea in the quizzes, have not you?

I like to follow the statistics in the community quizzes. There were always quizzes about the same thing, this being a dictator, or a natural wonder, or a country.
But no two quizzes are alike. The community quizzes were started to promote the diversity of views within the same topic or anything that you can closely or remotely associate with this topic. So anything you write is great even if there several other quizzes on the same fictional character. There is no restrictions, you can do one or several characters under one topic even though the theme is a character in singular.

Good luck to your creation.

If all CQ authors put the title of their character into the message on the thread in Salty Dog for launched CQs, then hopefully there will be no accidental duplication of characters?

......Providing all intending authors read that thread??!!

I just launched my "Zorro" CQ.

Mine's going to be on an ancient figure in English and Celtic folklore who appeared in Shakespeare, so I think I'm safe from duplication.
