I admit I am a newbie. Could someone be specific on what they are and how they are earned.

Gold Nuggets come up in WordRounds and Blue Diamonds show up in WordMatches. They are very random -some people see them frequently others have never seen one. They will be a blue or yellow screen when you start a WR or WM and if you get 100% in less than 2 minutes you will get your gem and 100,000 points. Sherry

I'm glad I got around to reading this--I had assumed those things meant the person had scored first place in one of the Word Rounds--something I've never come close to doing. I guess if I'd even gotten a nugget or a diamond I would know that. Maybe eventually one will befall on me!

I'm not complaining because I've seen more than my share of bling, but it seems unfair that some people never see them. I know it's programed to come up randomly, but I hope Beta 2 has a way to see that they are more evenly distributed. Makes me feel guilty, but not so guilty that I want you to take any of mine away

I'm with Suzer.......gemless!
I have even gone so far as to nominate myself as "El Supremo Presidente" of the W/R Gemless Club on my profile.

I do not play the word rounds much anymore.. but when they first were around.I generally played 30-50 a day and never once saw one, did that for months and then just stopped.. i play occassionally now but still have never seen on, would rather have seen one and lost than never see one

Before tonight I had only seen one golden nugget screen and no blue diamond screens. I started thinking there was something wrong with me. However, tonigh I was lucky enough to finally see the blue diamond screen! I feel complete now.

I recall an explanation from Justin (Mr. Sploofus) and I'm pretty sure he said that they were NOT random. I'm going to wade through old posts to see if I can find that one. Does anyone remember about when they started, so I'll know how far back I have to go?

I found Justin's post about the nuggets not being random:

Nothing has changed with the Golden Nuggets I just changed the WordRounds program so that it is impossible to get one if you "go looking for them". They are not given out at random as some players might think...

SO doesthat mean that players like myself, who play maybe 15 wordrounds a week, always to completion, notalways with a great score, will never see one?

I have never seen on.

I have not seen the golden nugget thing either, just the funky thingthat would appear in quizzes every once in a while.

and iam starting on my 2nd year of have been around a while

I really don't understand what the statement about not finding them if you "go looking for them" means. Does it mean if you play WordRounds too often you won't get one? How would the program know if you were looking for them? Right now it looks like a way to play favorites and ensure that some members will never progress in their overall rank because they don't have access to those bonuses. And denying some members access while granting it to others seems to me blatantly unfair.

I hope an editor sees this chat and asks Justin to clarify his statement. When I read it way back when, playing favorites was the first thought I had. Maybe it shows up after a player has done a certain number of WRs. I've never been able to figure it out...and obviously I have no gold or blue thingees, while others have many.

Going looking for them means calling up a screen and not playing the game at all -- just trawling for yellow or blue screens.
there was a discussion on this a year ago as i recall.

Yes, as Garybl said, if you don't actually PLAY the game, your round won't count, and the blue and gold screens appear on a 1 in 1000 basis for each player.

I am still not exactly sure how this works out, but it is randomized for each player, not randomized amongst all players.

That's as best as I can explain it from the information Justin has provided.

I stopped playing the word rounds/ word matches because after 2 months of playing them non stop and being in the top 10 monthly scores for both I still hadn't had a chance to get one. So I just stopped doing them at all.

Perhaps I might start doing them again.

Just came across a profile that had 26 gems and nuggets. I wonder how many rounds they have played if the odds are 1 in 1,000.
