I think it would be cool if we had a more detailed way to rate quizzes. (I know it will never actually happen or anything, BUT...) Like you could get a point for 9 different qualities of a quiz. For example, "Was this an interesting topic?", "Was this quiz actually correct?" , "Was this quiz well worded?", "Was this a UNIQUE idea?", etc. I think ideas like that could give us more guidance in our ratings instead of making a random number assignment. Maybe some people think that 5 is good rating...and others may think that 3 is generous.

I posted something similar to this a few weeks ago as I was perplexed by the whole thing. The only thing I figured out was that everyone apparently values quality and uniqueness. This however depending on the limited audience of a unique quiz will detract from people taking it.

I give quizzes 9's if they make me laugh or make me go "wow".

So this is my conclusion...make quizzes because you can't stop them from coming into your head and don't worry about the peripheral stuff. It will make you nuts...I already am so I'm good to go.

Just my 2 cents...Kelly

Giving more detailed ratings would be good feedback for the quiz authors, but as you point out, would people actually bother to rate in detail? Also, beyond folks who rate based on how they did, I'm sure people already factor in several components, whatever they are for that person, when rating a quiz. I know I do. I don't rate based on my results, and I tend to use 6 as an "It was Ok." rating. Anything below 6 means I thought the quiz was sub-par, and wrong answers will definitely lower my rating dramatically. To get above a six, the quiz has to be well-written, the wrong answers have to be at least semi-plausible, etc.

As for folks who think 3 is generous...I can see where there's quite a bit of subjectiveness in ratings, but Sploof does give some English at various ratings levels to guide folks. Based on those guides, 3 is pretty clearly a poor rating.

I took a decent "how did they die" quiz, but I felt really weird saying "pretty fun" when rating it.
