I've been on Sploofus almost a year, and didn't feel the need to be Gold until now. I'm just a little tired of the same old thing, and had to get this out.
For a while, I was on Sploofus every day. I even have my Mom, Dad, and significant other on here, plus a friend through my sending them a link.
Several months ago, I just got fed up with all of it, it's not even fun anymore. I hate pulling up the home page, seeing all the quizzes posted on the same topic, all by the same person. Most of the Top Quiz Authors are there because they do the "This is Easy", "Fill This In", etc. I thought this was about TRIVIA, not let's cut and paste some junk and make it really easy so hundreds of people will take this quiz, and rack up points for something that is barely even defined as Trivia. If you can post 20 quizzes a day, and it doesn't take but one topic for you to make all those, then I doubt you tried very hard.
Not to toot my own horn, but I actually research for my quizzes, and cover a few things I know of, and like to know a little bit more about. I thought that was the point, I didn't know I was supposed to make it easy for everyone, and give you a link to follow so you can basically cheat. There are a lot of authors that make cool quizzes, covering topics the "common folk" aren't confronted with every day, and those are the best, yet those are also the unrecognized.
Why should I bother trying to make something interesting and actually trivial/new/unknown/hard, if no one is going to rate my efforts worthy?
Do you guys not get a little miffed when someone rates your quiz low because they did crappy?
I know this was quite the rant, but every day I read this post now, because it's the only entertaining part of Sploofus left.

My only suggestion is to write as many good quality quizzes as you can.

I do a lot of research on my quizzes. People may not think that, but I do. Some of my quizzes do well, and some don't. I made the top 10 this week for the first time after authoring 135 quizzes. That was a goal I had set for myself, so I am elated.
I say go ahead and write your quizzes. We need good thought out quizzes in the mix. I know you may get disheartened, because I do, but then I just dust myself off, quack, and then plug away at it again.
Congratulations on going Gold and can't wait to see some great quizzes from you!

Giving someone a link can also help them do some research on their own in order to learn more about the subject.

Not that many people may do it, but you can write dozens of quizzes over several weeks. You can then submit them all at the same time.

I enjoy my hard quizzes. Generally, though, the quiz taking public seems to prefer the easy ones. I base this on the number of takers I have had for each type.

For example:

Einstein - (9)
Closest Stars To Earth (11)
Ocean Currents (12)
Moths (2) - LOTS of research

Easiest Barbra Streisand Quiz Ever - (57)
Easy Football Terms (87)
Coffee, Tea, Milk or Soda (89)

I still do the harder ones, but you can see why many people tend toward the easier ones.

I kind of take exception to this,I was the top quiz author in August and I do have some of the FITB quizzes, but the majority of my quizzes are researched and are about different subjects.
I have to admit that it is frustrating to see a lot of quizzes on the same subject, but have done this myself on a few topics. I think the best thing to do is search through the chaff to find the wheat. There are some very good quizzes on this site, it just takes some time to find them.

Hey, you are the lady with the Crayola quiz! It was an excellent quiz. Welcome to gold! I hope in time you will come out of your shell and be able to possibly speak what is on your mind. LOL
I agree the mulitple version quizzes are aggrevating at best. Your first impression on me is that you might be a breathe of fresh air among the current staleness. Gotta run, must look up that 'Moth' quiz.

Thanks Felix for taking and "supporting" my crayon quiz. I've read your many posts/replies, and am glad for the entertainment. I enjoy a fellow ripe with sarcasm. And I second the quack motion.

I tend to agree with Gopackgo on this, I was top author in September, and while yes some of my quizzes were put together in minutes, several took ages to research.
I am of the opinion if an author takes the time to compose a quiz, we should reflect our gratitude when rating the authors quiz.
I would also re-iterate the fact that FITB and complete the lyrics quizzes etc are very popular to some members, regardless if we like them personally.
I don’t really feel a public forum is the place to “slate” any member’s quizzes and feel this issue should be addressed directly with the author or player support.
Whilst on my tirade I would add I disagree with the statement that these quizzes are not trivia… They are !
Trivia - Insignificant or inessential matters; trifles.

Anyway, that’s only my opinion. Personally I would like to thank all the quiz authors on this site, regardless of the types of quizzes you produce ;o)
I think you all contribute to a well-structured and universally playable site that tailors for all players young and old.
It is down to the quiz taker to rate the quiz, and the rating they give is totally out of the writer’s control, authors must learn to deal with low ratings, as once again it is a personal choice of the taker on how high or low they rate your quiz.

Thanks to all who have taken my quizzes… I appreciate it ;o)

I know how you feel. Before the new editing came into play, I fired off a few quizes, some well thought out and researched, some just garbage. The garbage ones gave me the most points and the well thought out ones were barely touched. I created one last night and it took a few hours to research and do. Its the "Prince Edward Island Trivia" questions. I did it because there are alot of Islanders here, but it got only 2 bites so far. Oh well. My intentions were there and I learned alot of things from it. Thats all that you need to have in your mind as opposed to what others are doing.

If you feel bad about your quizzes after what I said, then okay...if you feel good about the quizzes you make, then great & more power to you. When I first joined Sploofus, and made some (what I thought were freakin good) quizzes, and everyone who took them did really bad, I got a lot of messages from players trying to suggest I had some wrong answers - 'cause they couldn't have been so wrong. The answers in question are a few facts that have been out in the world for a while, but were incorrect as far as who was credited with saying/and or doing said facts. The one I did on Circus/Carnival in particular, a few folks actually tried to start a message argument with me!
I know those things are correct, or I wouldn't have put them on there..and who had a problem with my quiz? At the time, it was a certain quiz author who was in the top 10 for quite a while, with all the crap quizzes. They even let me know they were going to report my quiz, since it was wrong.
How stupid is that?
My point is, and was, that with all the free-range complaining on this Chat, I wanted to get this gripe off my chest. If anyone can understand the frustration level, wouldn't it be fellow Sploofus folks? I didn't point a direct finger, but I'm sure we all can point at several quizzes that we'd rather not see taking up all the space on the homepage.
Happy Halloween!

Bravo TMJ!!!! You should have been around when the redundant quizzes even appeared in multiple catagories. I am glad they fixed that. The cloggers were stretching the rules of manners. But that no longer happens. Brb (phone) Hello? "what do you mean look at the Music and General Triva catagories?" Oh?............ Never Mind!

I think when you first join sploofus, you do not really know how to rate quizzes.I usually gave them a 5 or so,now i give those quizzes a 7.The ones i do crappy on,i usually give a higher score.FITB or something usually get a 7,but the ones i have to really think on-get the higher score.I do not write quizzes, have no urge to.I feel as if my mental capacity is not up to par to write quizzes. But my hat is off to anyone that does.I know tuzilla writes some good ones and i learn something from them, usually some food category. They are great-I don't do as well on some of these, therefore,I give them better scores.Just my opinion...

I have penned a mere 8 (I think) quizzes on this site. Each one I consider to be well thought out and each one took me longer than 5 minutes to produce. Naturally no one ever takes them. It can be frustrating, but I'm happy with the standard of my quizzes and if I don't have the time to create a well researched and written quiz then I do nothing.
