I MADE IT THROUGH SURGERY!

Just wanted everybody to know that everything went well yesterday during surgery. He performed all 6 procedures so I'm really sore, but I'm proud to say that I am not taking any of the Vicodin - just high doses of Motrin.

I am also happy to report that, even though they filled my insides up with air I am suffering no ill effects from it - I heard that is horrible so I feel very blessed.

The worst part for me right now is my very irritated throat from the tube they shoved down it. I've tried ice, cold drinks and hot broth.

Any suggestions to ease the irritation??

I'm tired. Going to lie down now. Thanks again for your good thoughts and prayers, everybody - you all rock!

Don't hesitate to take the pain relievers. It will help you heal faster. Pain keeps your blood pressure high and your anxiety high ... neither of which you can really control consciously ... and both of which will slow your healing.

Your throat will feel better too. I don't know if I can offer anything helpful there. I tried chicken soup, which made it feel better at least for a while.

Get better soon, Sheri...Koota is right about the pain. So sorry you have to go through all this but it will get better and better. You'll be amazed how well you feel in just two weeks or so.

Thanks for the update, so glad you made it through and you're recuperating. Maybe something hot will feel good on that irritated throat - like hot tea, broth or chicken soup. You probably don't want to chew or swallow anything hard or crunchy until it feels better anyway. So glad you're on the mend!

If your doctors say it's okay, you could try the throat sweets like Tunes - they're supposed to contain a mild local anesthetic so would ease the soreness.

I agree with the others re the pain, by the way - "being brave" and refusing the pain meds only makes it harder for your body to heal.

Gargling with warm salt water is supposed to help re-humidify the dry, irritated tissue. And then try swallowing a couple teaspoons of honey to soothe and coat the throat.
Hope you feel better soon.

Happy that you're doing well. I suggest this preventive method for no sore throat:
Tell the anesthesiologist to pee in there if he/she has to to keep me from getting a sore throat. They usually go into hysterics but I have noticed that they seem to lubricate the tube more or something. I don't get the problem! Remember it the next time!

Thanks for all the great advice - I broke down and took a Vicodin - put me to sleep, which is good. One of my employees came over with supper, which was especially nice, because my husband's idea of making food is brown rice and black beans (which is very nutritious and tasty with some butter and cayenne pepper, but try giving it to a 7 year old for lunch and dinner several days in a row!)

I'll try the salt water and keep with the hot drinks. My throat is feeling better this afternoon. In the meantime, I don't plan to do any housework - just sleep.

Take care, everybody - and thanks again!

Yesterday someone told me that eating fresh pineapple would ease any sore throat problem. It didn't seem possible to me bcause of the high acidity in the pineapple, but the person swears by it. I haven't tried it yet.

So glad you are on the mend now and that you got back to us
so soon. I was just thinking we'd have to wait till Monday.
I have some Zinc and Lemon throat lozenges , made by ZANO,
that I got from the Herbal remedies store. They do wonders
and I'll LEND them to you, if you like....
Maybe the anaetheologist DID pee on it, and THAT's why your
throat is sore???? Six procedures....Maybe he forgot to go
before he started on you!!!!

LOL! I'll have to call the doctor tomorrow and ask him if he forgot to "go" before the surgery!

Will pick up some throat lozenges today.

Glad we didn't get to move this weekend - I wouldn't have been able to do anything!

Thanks again for the great advice, everybody, and for your prayers, concerns and good wishes. I look forward to spending more time sploofusing when I feel a bit better.

May God bless you always!

Sheri
