"ELITISM"

I play this game for fun. In essence I compete with myself. I thank those folks who took my most recent quiz-re: O.J. Simpson and sent me such kind comments. There is a clique here on Sploofus whether you want to belie3ve it or not. Have watched folks come and go. Certain people have become a sort become sort of "Piririra" (Sp. on that one) but do not believe them to be that. When I create a quiz always check the profile of takers-discouraging when little or no information given. Have certain "friends" here but also recognize snobbery when it is there. My most recent quiz received high ratings and I thank you for that. Folks who had never attempted my quizzes did this one-thanks-Linda

lol not quite that-but it is an exclusive thing but is fleeting-very few folks have remained here over a long period-years-at least under the same name-not saying anything that does not include myself-sometimes simply must avoid the "Chat" forum as my tendency at times is to get angry-some posts and folks are simply not "popular"-again I include myself in this category-thanks-Linda

I heard they have a heavily fortified, well-guarded enclave in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho with a school and training facilities, hi-tech, hackproof connections, armored support vehicles and day care.

Quite a provocative post, Heidi. I'll be interested in the responses. The humorous ones are amusing, but does anyone have a serious response? Although I do have to ask you, Heidi, what kind of behavior constitutes cliquish behavior? Are we talking about whose quizzes we choose to take, or about the various conversations we choose to take part in--shout, PMs, BBS, etc.?

I'm with Siouxie, Heidi. I gave a silly response first because I didn't know HOW to respond. Your message is kind of cryptic. I don't know what "Piririra" means. Are you feeling left out of some activity? Has someone insulted you? Offended you? What?

I was trying to spell the flesh-eating small fish-did poorly. I was not attempting to be cryptic. It just seems that certain folks are attacked because of the way they express themselves not for their ideas or suggestions. I am a human being and love "pats" as much as anyone. Some of my quizzes have received a favorable response-some not. Some of my posts with questions go unanswered. Do not believe anyone is some kind of "lowlife" because they do not write on "intellectual" topics. My most recent quiz was a deviation from my usual theme on movies.-Do not believe I try to deliberately provoke controversy--Linda

I took your O.J. quiz, Heidi, and found it quite thought-provoking, especially your intro. I was teaching in a relatively small high school at the time of the O.J. trial, and we were allowed to go into the library where they had a TV set up to hear the verdict. Quite a few of the students cheered when the verdict was announced, and they were almost all white kids. We had hardly any black students at the school at that time. Why did they cheer? I've pondered that question quite a lot. Some of them were the kind of students who write "anarchy rules on their notebooks and glory in anything that brings the "establishment" down. So perhaps they saw the state/prosecution as the establishment. I've also thought of O.J. as a kind of antihero, sort of like Shakespeare's Macbeth. You know what he did was wrong, but it's hard not to feel some kind of fellow-feeling for him. My last thought on the subject was that the students felt that they knew O.J. through his sports and TV career. They never felt they knew the victims. At any rate, I didn't find it a trivial quiz, although I did wonder if anyone might be offended by your remarks introducing the quiz, in spite of the fact that they were based on research. Please don't judge the Sploofus community by a few ugly responses you might have gotten!

Thanks for your response. I received nothing but kind remarks from those who took my O.J. quiz and sent some sort of note. Believe the rating is currently my highest without an EA. Nothing in the questions nor the intro was meant as an offense to any individual or group-just the way it was-thanks-Linda

I am still interested in your original post and the topic of elitism. May I pose a question here? How many of you use Sploofus in part to communicate with people whom you know outside of Sploofus? I'm speaking of co-workers, relatives, friends, neighbors, etc. If that is a significant number, it would account for why some Sploofusers seem to have more close ties than others. I'll answer my own question first. I do not know outside of Sploofus anyone who regularly participates. I've gotten a number of people to join, but they are very sporadic visitors who mostly do TQOTDs.

My son got me started-believe he no longer plays. Over time I have developed some rapport with a few folks whom I have never met in person-most likely should not have made my original post-some folks just attract other folks no matter what they say-that too is simply the way it is!! Linda

I am not sure if the word Heidi/Linda is after is "Piranha" meaning the flesh-eating fish, or "Pariah", meaning a social outcast.

I would hope we have neither in our Sploofus membership!
