HERE'S A BIG FUNNY ON ME...

In 24 days of waiting for a vocab question to wager on, I've burned three of my birthday tokens - 1 win, 2 losses. The win was in the middle, Books and Authors, as was the first of the losses. Tonight, despairing of ever seeing another vocab word outside of WRs, I thought I'd chance a wager on my statistically best category - World Events. Of course I lost, and I was absolutely livid. I shut everything down in a fury, tears in my eyes, as mad as I've ever been with no one to aim it at. Then, in just as much of a fury, I booted back up and logged back on, intending to spew some bile and stomp off again, saying that someone could just email me if the vocab category ever gets unstopped. Now comes the good part.

Before I posted, I looked at Garrybl's thread about wagering, only to discover that HE'D had a vocab question and won a wager! I posted a whiny little reply, and just then happened to glance up at my stat line at the top of the page. What the hey? I'm still in 20th place - how the heck did THAT happen? Hunh...someone else must've lost big, I think. So I go to look at the leaderboard to see what's up, and can't make sense out of what I'm seeing, until I realize my score hasn't changed! Well, it has, actually, but not so's you'd notice. And then the light dawns - I know what I've done. When I typed in my wager, going for the max as always, I'd typed the 1, and counted off nine more strokes - ON THE SPACE BAR! I WAGERED 1 POINT!!!

Which is a terrible waste of a token, but WAY better than losing a billion! Never felt so stupid and so lucky at the same time. Very strange.

Go on, laugh - I am.

Oh, but I'd have paid a few million points of my own to hear the blue streak that would have come out had you looked at the leaderboard and seen:

SMOKE20 just won 1 points on a trivia wager... CONGRATS!

omigosh, thank you for such a good laugh this morning. Thank you for sharing your Sploofus blooper with us. Now, wagering 1 point is along the lines of something old conservative ME would do

Well, Pat, if you've got tokens up the wazoo, and have no plans to use them, why not do something like that when you're at the beginning of a level, just for the "thrill"? Who knows, before long, you might even be wagering 50 points!

Hilarious story! I also have birthday tokens and have been waiting for a vocabulary question. Then I got one and missed the question--didn't know it and overthought it instead of going with the answer I clicked on first. I was in a bad mood for the rest of the day!
