Hi all!
I’m a 36 y-o girl from Italy. Justin, thank you for this wonderful site! I love challenges so it’s lots of fun, though it can also make me feel terribly ignorant...
I’m always eager to make new friends from around the world, so anyone is more than welcome to message me! In particular, I’d love to meet anyone who is into astronomy. It’s my greatest passion but I have nobody here to share it with.

Ps. The Mercury part in my nick is in honor of Freddie Mercury. Anyone like Queen out there??!

Have a great Sunday everyone!

Hello Fran,

Thanks for joining us here. I happen to be a huge astronomy fan, and at one point was working on a Sploofus "Astronomy Edition". One of the earliest Sploofusers (NETMAN) and I were pretty gung-ho about it. I've got a MEADE Newtonian reflector which allows me to observe plenty of Messier objects on a dark night in the fields of Michigan. My favorite astronomy hobby is watching/predicting the colors and luminosity of variable stars - and of course I also enjoy searching for binaries, optical doubles, triples, blah blah blah.

If ever Sploofus makes money I plan on quitting my job, doing Sploofus full time, and moving to New Mexico where I will be building an observatory on my house.

Anyways, again - great to have you here - it is encouraging to see you posting about your interests and hobbies. I'll soon be releasing an all new set of tools that make it easy to meet other Sploofusers who share your passions. I hope we haven't heard the last from you!

Stellar stuff!

Hi Justin!
Well you really are into astronomy! I sincerely hope you can fulfil your dream one day.
My interest in astronomy is more about the science, theories and stuff like that (as much as my not really scientific mind can understand). Unfortunately I can’t enjoy observation because I’m visually impaired, but this does not decrease my love in the subject by any means. There’s a sense of peace and joy whenever I learn or think about what’s going on out there, a sense of keenship with everything...I’ll stop here because I’m going to sound boring to most readers, I know LOL.

I studied at UC Santa Barbara for 1 academic year, and there I had the opportunity to take 2 basic astronomy courses taught by a great astronomer, Prof. Robert Antonucci, whom I later discovered to be pretty famous in the astronomy community. A dream come true for me. Cosmology and the life of stars are among the subjects that fascinate me more.
Of all the quizzes posted on your site, I see the only ones where I get a decent score are those about astronomy, though I am no astronomer (along with quizzes on Queen lyrics). It’s terrible to realize how ignorant one is, but also so cool to learn!

Hope to share some more about astronomy and more with you and others.

Thanks again for the site!

That rocks, Fran! I'm scientifically impaired too - lack of education in my case, but no lack of interest. I'll never forget the summer night on a front porch swing near Richmond, Virginia in 1953, when my uncle expanded my universe by telling me that our own sun was one of those itty bitty stars up close.

Welcome to the boards!

Thanks for the nice message, Smoke20! Yeah it's incredible the Sun and those small points of light in the distance are the same thing, and that the sun isn't even that big among them. Once I've been asked if the Sun too was a star. Unfortunately for many people what happens outside Earth is not interesting, while in truth, it's all connected.

Have a great day

I expect you will write lots of astronomy questions. Welcome aboard! It's a great place to be.

Geophile, thanks for the welcome!
So far I've posted only 1 quiz on astronomy, I'll certainly write more quizzes!
Have a nice day
