I don't remember the exact name of the runner, but her last name was Dekker. She was leading a long race (5000 meter?) but had overtrained and stumbled and fell. I sawe a runner in the pack, and exclaimed to my friend, "Watch her, she's gonna win the race".
Sure enough, a blonde Danish woman won the race. I could just could tell by her runnning style.
Another one was in the Sapporo Olympics, where an Austrian or German downhill skier lost it and went through a set of barriers. I know instantly that he was severely hurt.
His tumble was spectacular, though. Anyway, he was a favorite to win this race.

If you get your suggestions from this forum, then isn't the forum itself a cheat sheet?

And I'm with Koota, if you hate history it might not be the best topic to write on. The best quizzes are on topics near and dear to the author.
