Well it was fun, but i sure don't know anything about any kind of football. Just some lucky guessing. Good luck all.

I really enjoy the WPs now, but I didn't even bother taking that one. Bummer...

We should try to have at least some sort of fairly generic topic....

Your wish is my command.

Hey everyone, "Generic Word Puzzle" is Smaug's fault.

Word Puzzles are more than about knowing the subject sometimes, and this is one of them - I had to sit back so I could see some of the missing letters - and say it outloud and work out the logic and the way letters go together - which is why I enjoyed this.

Sometimes they are just hard - sometimes you just gotta think about the letters - now if I have a 3rd time to get on Wheel of Fortune I'm gonna DO it this time! That's what my word puzzles are to me - logic practice!

I asked for it (although I did mean "English" not Scottish) I got it, I enjoyed it.

Good puzzle Sploofanatic, THANKS.

I went and tried it and I come back re-justified in my complaint. Running through the whole alphabet to get the weird spelling of Scottish soccer clubs is no fun at all. Sorry.

It is a tribute to the WPs that I am crabby to lose a half a day of them

That was more like it! Way more fun than obscure 'sports' like 'Nascar', baseball and American 'football'! When do we get a WP on ENGLISH football? My gosh, look at the times: Google must have been busy! Seriously tho', thanks to all at Sploofus for realizing the Brit contingent is growing and for catering for us! Cheers, Andy.

Hooray! - a top ten finish for me. They'll be dancing in the streets o' Edinburgh the night!
Great fun. I particularly enjoyed my completely unfair advantage.

I'm happy for those of you who enjoyed the puzzle, regardless of your level of familiarity. Of course it was more challenging for some than others; puzzles nearly always are, else there would be no clear winners and every puzzle would be decided by the speed of one's internet connection. Apologies to the English, I did the one I know best - perhaps one of the editors more familiar with English clubs and traditions will hear your plea.

Smaug, welcome to the wide world of international Word Puzzling. Now you have an inkling of how the Brits feel solving for Jacksonville Jaguars and Arizona Diamondbacks, or how the non-Potter fan feels trying to come up with the names of wizards or quiddich rules.

We try our collective best to offer a balanced variety of puzzles to a diverse membership with a wide range of interests. Every puzzle will not, cannot, suit the interests and skills of every player, but we hope in the course of a month to distribute the pleasure and the pain as equally and fairly as possible.

I'd expected, with the arrival of the baseball playoff season, to see some baseball puzzles in the pipeline, but alas, it is not so. Ah, well, as the Mets fans say, there's always next year.

Jacksonville who?, Arizona what? Well put SPLOOFANATIC. Thanks again and the request for an English Football WP wasn't meant to be a complaint. We could also have Welsh, Maltese and countless other Football WP's! Wouldn't that be a nice theme alternating with some baseball playoff ones?!
