So, what's going on in rugby? No mention of whatever this is in the US, even though we actually know a bit about rugby (lots of club teams in colleges whose members drink lots of beer, for example). Seems like something big is going on in cricket, too (other than chirping).

World cup rugby is the game where Americans go to the bars at nine in the morning and are smashed by eleven (maybe sooner) and still have to stay awake for the 3:00 game. Clearly, hell has frozen over and England plays for the title again. It is about time as the 2003 winners shirts are beginning to smell.

World Cup Rugby is played so the American team can turn up, lose all their games and return home in time to watch England in the final!

I never played rugby. However, I attended quite a few rugby keggers. Quiet, dignified things they were, too. Very formal.

With a five or six hour difference between the European venue, we need to start early. Usually, the team goes to the bar after the game but since America has not made the finals ... again ... we go to watch. Now, if the game is held in New Zealand ... how do you feel about a 1:00 am Foster's?

So with Kick-off at 21:00 French time, Oct. 20 you can pick a reasonable beverage at 3:00 EDT or whenever. I think it was very nice of the French to schedule this at such a gentlemanly hour. England should have far more rooters than the tiny, underdog South Africa.

They played the England/France game on an obscure cable channel today. Good show! Of course the baseball playoffs are also on an obscure cable channel (a disgrace to all civilization).

That match was quite a spectacle. Better and more varied injuries than soccer (football) and American football combined. Perhaps we'll get to see the other semifinal in the next few days.

Mindmonkey....
I've only been to one Rugby "Kegger" Had volunteered to sling beer
for the Welsh National Rugby Team, and they first sang for hours at
Royal York Hotel in Toronto. The audience LOVED THEM and the hired
band left after one set!!!!
Then we had our own party, and along the way several of the guys stripped
off and pranced around on the stage!!!! One of them was so drunk he fell off
the stage onto a pile of broken beer bottles....and got up without a single
scratch!!!! That's relaxation....
I ended up driving home at 4am, and they were still going....
No formality there....

Yes, Rowlanda, that sounds like the ones I attended. Like I said: quite formal and dignified!
