APOLOGIES TO ALL BLONDES

There was News recently that "they" have been
putting LEAD in lipstick....that means women
everywhere have been putting a substance on their
mouths,thatcauses intellectual problems....
Apparently the "redder" the lipstick - the more
lead it contains!!!! And who is more likely to
use RED lipstick....Blondes of course

It seems cosmetic company's justify this by saying
the lipstick is used outside of mouth....
How many times a day do women lick their lips do
you think!!!! When they eat or drink - lipstick
gets on whatever they are ingesting and goes into
the body along with the food.
WHAT ARE THEY THINKING????

They only think profits, our welfare is not their concern. I am not a blonde, but I wear red lipstick on occasion.

Um...Ladies, let's not get hasty here. Apparently, this rumor has been going on for several years, and gets trotted out again and again. There is no more lead in lipstick than you'd ordinarily get just being a human being.

Robin,

Thanks for the link. I was on my way to the trash can with all my lipstick. Probably still not a bad idea to weed out some of that stuff.

Everyone needs to be a little more cautious these days. I'm not sure that the FDA or it's Canadian counterpart can control what gets put in our products. They've already killed numerous dogs & cats, had a problem with toothpaste & who knows what other dangers lurk in our not made in the USA or Canada goods. Good luck finding many products with either countries labels in North American stores. I'm sure the Europeans I'm suffering a similar fate

Utter nonsense. Everyone knows it's peroxide that makes bleach blondes stupid.

Of course, the brunettes who put dangerous chemicals on their heads mere millimeters from their brains don't seem overly bright to begin with.

REAL blondes are uniformly brilliant.

Brenda: You are right about that. Most of my makeup should probably be trashed. I wish they made little teeny single use or maybe 3 use packets for those of us who may only use it that often in a year. I am very sensitive to anything that goes around my eyes, so I tend to buy natural products which have a shorter shelf life. Here is the recommended shelf life for most cosmetics:

* Oil-Free Foundation: 1 year
* Cream or Compact Foundation: 18 months
* Concealer: 12-18 months
* Powder: 2 years
* Blush and Bronzer: 2 years
* Cream Blush: 12-18 months
* Powder Eye shadow: 2 years
* Cream Eye shadow: 12-18 months Eyeliner: 2 years
* Liquid eyeliner: 3-6 months
* Mascara: 3 months
* Lipstick: 2 years
* Lip liner: 2 years
* Lip gloss: 18-24 months
* Nail Color: 1 year

I was a little suspicious of the length of the disclaimer
(thou doth protest too much) and of the admission there is
"some" lead content in lipstick....Her reporting of the
"smear tests" done was also unnecassarily long and convoluted

So it seems the "Redder" and more "Colourfast" the lipstick
....the higher the lead content might or might not be.

My answer to the claim that this "myth keeps arising"....
"Where there's smoke, there may also be fire!!!!"

The issue is that it is more difficult than you think to be totally "lead free." The amounts of lead in lipstick are less than the "allowable" amount of lead in Infant formula. Your drinking water has an "allowable" amount of lead in it and the lipsticks on the whole had less lead in them than the allowable amount for drinking water. How much water do you drink...how much lipstick do you wear? Perspective!

Thanks Liam....I'll keep that in mind....

Robin - I don't understand precisely what you're saying....
Sounds as if you are saying there is just naturally lead in
almost everything, and the only question becomes....is it
below the "acceptable" level.
My understanding of it was - the lead is INTRODUCED to
either produce certain Red colours, or to make the lipstick
stay on longer.
So....it's either "introduced" in which case they can just stop it
OR it "occurs naturally" and should be extracted (like Gas)
Can you please explain to me????

It is my understanding that lead finds its way into lipstick as a byproduct of the mining process of other minerals which are added routinely to enhance color. Here is the public health statement from the Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry:

http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/toxprofiles/phs13.html

Some interesting facts: Lead is found in every environment; astronomically more so in the past 3 centuries due to human activity. Lead is found in high levels in costume jewelry but "not much lead can get into your body through your skin." Note that this does not say, "No lead can enter your body through your skin, period." Nearly every FDA-approved product meant for human consumption has "allowable" levels of lead.

In conclusion, I think we can safely assume that we are exposed to and ingest WAY more lead through our air, food and water than we would ingest by wearing lipstick daily.

Most of the injustices life has dealt to women through the ages have come at the hands of men. We can safely leave Eve out of it.

Synchronicity:

I've just seen a cartoon that shows Adam lounging at the base of a tree, munching on an apple, apple cores littering the ground around him, while a shocked Eve looks on. Off to one side stands a man scribbling in a notebook. In the caption Adam says, "Oh, him? He's my publicist. He's keeping the record straight."

If you read Revelations, you'll see where all this anti-woman stuff
comes from, and - as with the Islamic Fundementalists - ALL bad
things in the world started with women seducing men into disobeying
God - whoever your God happens to be!!!!

2. Please make all future comments publically - if you dare....
3. Please apologize for your totally unwarranted attacks and name-calling.

Rowlanda: Please except my apology as I was very wrong to say the things that I did. I'm sure you are a very good person and you were just poking fun at me and I took it the wrong way. I have always believed that women get a lousy hand in life of all the things that seem to happen only to them. I am if nothing else sympathetic to women every where and I aplaud them for putting up with us men, but by no means are all men to blame for everything that happens to women. I hope you except my apology, but if you don't that's okay too. Have a great day and God bless you and yours always.

My goodness. How did we get from lead in lipstick to male-bashing?? Oh, maybe it's because men manufacture the lipsticks?? This reminds me of the game we used to play as pre-teenagers where you whisper a phrase in one person's ear, who passes it along to the next one, etc. By the time it gets back to the originator of the phrase it bears no resemblance to the original phrase. And then we wonder why COUNTRIES can't get along!

Bashing? What bashing? I mean besides you saying Rowlanda and I must be anti-men and like other women. But that doesn't really qualify, since it's totally wrong and based on zero knowledge of either of us. Sticks and stones and all that.

The only bashing I'm aware of was done in private, for which you've since so graciously apologized. Best move on.

Thanks, kiddo! About to check out Lodi's videos and hope they don't set off a laughing/coughing fit that puts me back in bed! Been my first full day up in a week and it's been eventful, to say the least! One of the weimaraners bit one of those door-to-door bible folks, and the cops were here for over an hour while I searched for rabies certificates! Finally had to give up and put them on the phone with my vet to vouch that they've all had their shots. They were going to take BOTH weims to the pound because the guy couldn't tell (or wouldn't say) which one bit him. I'm positive it was Molly. She's such a bitch. Wasn't much of a bite - more of a deep scratch and a torn pants leg. That'll teach the dang fool to come through a gate with "Beware of Dogs" plastered all over it.

Jeepers, Joel, calm down. I'm not judging anyone, and I'd appreciate it if you'd stop judging me. I wasn't taking your comment out of context, I was teasing you about it. I was just kidding around - it's what I do. My fault for not putting a smiley face, okay?

I understand that you meant to seem sensitive in your first post. I only thought it ironic that in a comment obviously intended to be sympathetic to women, you called us "guys". (Insert ironic chuckle) And it always exasperates me when men take that age-old cue from the Bible (written by men) that Eve from the dawn of creation is to blame for every bad thing in human nature. In another creation myth (also written by men), it's Pandora. There are others, but it's always women who screw it up for everybody, and it's always men who tell the story. See, that's what made the cartoon funny.

My comment was not at all a judgment of you personally, which I'm unqualified to make, nor is it man-bashing to hint that male-dominated society has always unfairly blamed women for their own problems. It's an historical-cultural observation that invites a conversation, if you feel you're up to it. If you don't, that's fine too, but there's no call to accuse every woman who says anything even jokingly negative about men of being militant man-hating lesbians. That one gets old too; every woman who speaks her mind about men gets accused of "liking women". Guilty as charged. I like women. Just not in the way you implied. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but it's out of line to assume it, never mind fling it down as though its a scatheing rebuttal, without any knowledge of the person you're addressing. As it happens, I'm 20 years happily married today (to a man), and if you knew anything about me at all you'd know the very last thing I am is a man hater. I adore men. Heck, I even think the wrinkly bits are lovely. (insert laughing, but no pointing)

FYI, every message I've ever written about you is right here on this board. How about we stop talking past each other and make nice?

Peace, dude.

And I think being a woman is super. Anyone who thinks that being a woman means you endure suffering and other indignities, must not be hanging out with the right women.
