Many of you will have heard me complaining many times about my old computer system.
In the interests of Full Disclosure....I must tell you....
The lady who helped me to install the new system....opened up the old Processor
and found inside - a Baseball-sized lump of DOG HAIR....
That Enormous puppy that I had, NEVER kept still - so puppy's hair was everywhere ....and I kept the CPU Tower on the floor!!!!
Was constantly cleaning everything EXCEPT the computer system!!!!
Mea culpa!!!!

I have my tower on the floor, too, but I bought one of those caddies you put under big houseplants that make them easier to move around. That way I can move the tower quite easily to clean around it plus it brings the tower up off the floor about 4 or 5 inches. Don't know if that would help you or not.

For being short-haired dogs, I think Dalmations are THE worst for shedding. German shepherds save all their hair up and shed it ALL in the spring. I brush them and get enough fur to make a coat - if I knew how, that is

Pat, thank you. I have one of those plant dollies in the basement and it will be under my tower in about five minutes. Anyone who has a Lab knows about dog hair.

I don't think the plant dolly thing is going to keep the dust bunnies out of your computer. Every CPU has a fan to keep the unit cool and in order for it to run, it has to suck in air. It sucks in hair, dust, all the good stuff. You should open the unit and clean the inside periodically. I use one of those canned air thingies. But where it sits in the house really isn't going to make a difference. Unless it sits in a plastic bubble, I suppose.

You're right, Lodi. Having the tower on a dollie won't keep the hair out totally but I think it does lessen the amount since it isn't sitting right there on the floor next to the hair. And it definitely makes it easier to move the tower to clean the floor around it. I can't believe how much dust gathers on my tower at work where it is carpeted and there are no pets and not nearly as much traffic around my desk as at home with pets.

Mine is up off the floor and enclosed in a cupboard in my desk and it still gets full of crap. I'm talking about my computer, not ducttape.

Oh Gosh Rowlanda - I saw Windows ME and thought it was going to be a halloween story - being the computers / web hosting / design is my business I feel for the people that come in with their ME horror stories - at least yours seems to be just dust bunnies - count yourself lucky!

Just a word to all - I used to open and clean out my computer about twice a year - using canned air - Since I began renting my office space from two computer guru's (I only thought I was one) - I've seen some really scary things - word up is to find a local computer person and have them clean you out at least once a year - they have those nifty vacs that blast out (and are very expensive) - it'll keep your computer running nicely - keep the dust off your precious components - and have them do virus / spyware scans too - they normally have several programs they run that catch things the others don't - I let them do mine now - saves me money because the other costs so much time and usually only takes about an hour for them to complete...if your computer is lagging, you probably have some kind of spyware somewhere...and the best thing is - you aren't the one who gets attacked by the wallabies

End of public service announcment!
