On the Johns puzzle a letter is missing.
On the Charles puzzle there is a superfluous letter.
I think the second mistake won't worry anyone; the first one produces a nonsensical name no one will work out without wasting time, trouble, brainpower and guesses.
Given the checks the editors are supposed to put us through, 'quis custodiet ipsos custodies?'
Garrybl - wondering whether this is the first time anyone has been pretentious enough to use latin on the salty dog.

Corrections have been made - thanks for letting us know.

Our sincere apologies for any lost points.

Seems like the past few months WP's have had a higher frequency of mistakes than normal. When this started happening a couple of years ago, some of us suggested that WP's be double checked by a 2nd editor before they were released and you would have thought we suggested canceling Christmas. I mean, they obviously are made several days in advance because we are given a preview of the list. What's the difficulty of having a second set of eyes quickly peruse those puzzles in the queue?

I have to say it, a puzzle like this where you almost have to fill in every single letter, because of the unlimited possibilty of answers is to me thoughtless, and boring. I hate to criticize, but it wasn't very witty. What happened to the person, place, or thing categories? Or around the house, same name, or event?

All the puzzles I had were about 80 percent fairly obvious, or at least guessable, 10 percent never heard of in my life, and 10 percent with at least 3 other possibilities.

I felt the same way Rocco- endless possibilities made for an endless puzzle- it took way too long to do this and I felt there wasn't much of a point to it. Plus I did horribly grumble grumble

Believe it or not, each one of the WordPuzzles is, indeed, checked by another Editor. What you see are the errors that get through. What you don't see are the many corrections we catch before they go live. Sometimes it is hard to know what the original author meant; especially on the punny ones.

We do apologize for the goofs.

I didn't see any mistakes in the puzzles I got, but I was unable to finish the puzzle because it took at least three minutes for every letter I guessed to load, and I had to bail during the fourth puzzle after 45 minutes because I had to leave for a rehearsal. I don't know if the problem was with Sploofus or my computer, but it's very frustrating to guess a letter and then wait, and wait, and wait for the screen to load.

Can I throw in a suggestion?
This puzzle would have been far more fun and manageable if the names had been in alphabetical order -- as it was the names were really random. I had one name by the way where I had all the letters but one and still 15 letters left in the alphabet. None of them made anyone I'd ever heard of and I flatter myself I'm quite well-read.
Even when I checked this person out I'm not sure I was much the wiser!

Thanks for letting us know, Sploofinder. I, for one, REALLY appreciate it when the Editors keep us informed regarding what's going on behind the scenes. It prevents us regular guys from making assumptions and then heading down to Sploofus Central with our torches & pitchforks.

Thanks again.

Maybe it is just me and I'm old and cranky...sometimes it is a real chore for me to do the word puzzles-people and places and words that I have never of before seeing them here. I play it because it is almost a guilt thing to let points, however poor my score, go to waste. Word rounds and matches go quickly thus I like them although I will not ever be really in the running as my typing skills poor. Have to tell myself sometimes that this is a game and about fun. Read back over this and it doesn't make much sense, does it?? Ah well.....Linda

Tallactor......I was doing the puzzle about the same time as you and the exact same thing happened to me.......long load times between each letter and I got a blank screen quite a few times, so I think the problem was with Sploofus not your/my computer.
Luckily I had nothing else to do, so (cursing under my breath) I held out to the end.
Apart from that, I did enjoy the puzzle.

You've obviously missed all the times I've written MEA CULPA
and then, once, there was CONSUMATER AVERTI
I wrote out the whole verse of my School Song....GAUDEAMUS IGITOR
And EVERYONE has written ETC. at some time other other!!!!
Don't flatter yourself....YOU are not the only person on here who's pretentious!!!!

I wanted to say I was profoundly disappointed, actually outraged, by the....

....actually I haven't taken it yet, but everyone else seemed to be having fun b!@3ching so I thought I'd jump in.

Okay, I'm back and ready to gripe.

My suggestion would be that 3 editors TAKE the quiz before it is launched and comment if it just is totally moronic, errors aside.

we all have different tastes and this place would be very boring if we all liked everything offered in the WP's. this one was not my cup of tea either, but variety is supposed to be the spice of life

i'm just waiting to see what the next one brings

Sincere apologies for the spelling errors! The puzzles are checked and double checked, but mistakes will happen. I'll be more careful about my sources in the future.

As I watched someone else take this puzzle I realized it was much more difficult than I intended it to be. Not that difficult is necessarily bad (we don't want ALL 5-move puzzles =) but it wasn't intended to be such a brainbuster.

Ah well. Live & learn and on to the next puzzle...
