Most of the time you dont stay behind the same person for very long (a wager or showdown by you or someone else changes the order).
I know not everybody likes showdowns but after a while they get capped and so you are not staking 10% of your total they become affordable.
I was just checking my list of challenges and realized I might be getting close to setting some kind of record (even though many people have been playing for a lot longer than me).
What's the most challenges any one has had from the same person -- or the most challenges anyone has given the same person?

My overall rank is pretty far down, but I've never had a showdown by the same person.

Hiya Barry...I have been challenged 29 times, 3 times being the most from the same person, and I have initiated 40 challenges, 5 times being the most against the same person.

I have staged 89 showdown challenges against others and only been challenged 18 times. The most against one player is 5 against willough4

Well, now, Barry. The person who has challenged me the most times has been YOU!! I just went and calculated, and you comprise 11% of all my challenges.

I sit here meekly and don't challenge a soul, since I do so badly at these showdowns, and actually, I guess, I don't get picked on all that often. There have only been 37 challenges - and I have been a member for almost exactly 2 years.

I have well over 100 showdown tokens in the bank - wish I could trade them in for something I will use - like wager tokens, chocolate, grocery store coupons....

I agree with Alice on those tokens. I don't like to wager, and I'm not fond of challenging others or being challenged either.

Oh wait a minute - I LOVE to wager. That's why I would love to be able to swap those unused Showdown tokens for some wager tokens. I have over 100 showdown tokens, but zero Wager tokens.

Mine is 44% - it was much higher but the last questions I've gotten were really bizzare.

I had one where I answered immediately - and the time kept going and registered like 20 somthing percent - and even though I was right - the timer was not my friend - I had been challenged so I didn't lose anything - but I know I got it faster than the other person cause it should have registered like 2 seconds.

My last 3 showdowns were from the same person, milkandhoney - the first two were stalemates - the last one my timer kept going even after I submitted and resulted in horrible lag time (which has happened several times) - the question was bizzare and obscure and I had gotten it wrong anyway - and the person challengig had guessed right - it wasn't even welsh - but it WAS that bizarre - If I'm going to do a showdown - I check who I'm up against - if they have badges in every category - I chicken out - so it's been a LONG time since I challenged anyone (the lag time is the biggest reason for that).

For instance - I just went checked who I would be challenging and low and behold it was TALLACTOR who is at level 23 while I'm at 12.6 -- I look at those stats and know that I'd probably get killed - so I chicken out and don't start the showdown.

Total is:
Wins: 20
Stalemates: 12
Losses: 13

Bigbird dont feel put on.
Somebody else is just receiving their eleventh showdown from me. We've been locked behind one another for two long periods now and I get bored if I dont use a showdown when I've no wagers left or no vocabulary questions!
We need to set up that showdown exchange dont we?
What's the going rate?

I love the showdowns, but I'm kind of in a limbo area of the standings. If I win one, then lose a wager (or vice versa) I end up right behind the same folks....and since I don't want anyone to think I'm picking on them, I just let the showdowns back up.

I'm 29-9-9 and have yet to face the same person twice. It jsut takes a little planning.

I've never staged a showdown but I really enjoy being challenged. You all know what a coward I am about taking risks. If I'm challenged and lose I don't lose any points. So I just sit here and wait for someone to challenge me.

I have been challenged once. Did not know what to do . So I let it slide, did nothing (nuttin) and now my unblemished record shows I LOST a challenge. That's what I get for the Nolo plea. By the by I was "bested" by a 13 year old lad. Something millions of armed asians could never do to this old soldier. Kudos Kid.. rd

i never gave any thought to this prior to reading this thread. interesting results!

here are my stats:

total showdowns = 78

wins = 26 losses = 34 stalemates = 18

# of showdowns i initiated = 29

4 people have challenged me two times each.

i challenged 4 other players 2 times each
and 1 player 3 times

the last time i challenged anyone was in October 2005. i just won't take the risk when i don't know what category i'll get.

i don't mind being challenged even though i fail miserably due to speed. i have noticed the same problem that others have described here already, specifically, long lags in the timer after i click the submit button. but i still try to answer any showdown issued to me anyway.

Total Showdowns 68
My Challenges 26
Last Time I
Challenged September, 2006

Challenged 4 times by gustavoberklund
and 3 times by garrybl

Wins 23
Losses 33
Stalemates 12

First win 1,495 points
Last win 21,748,364 points

After reviewing this, I vowed to start challenting again, but then I looked at the home page of the person ahead of me, who has 7 proficienty badges, and thought better of it.

101 challenges
55 wins
31 losses
15 stalemates

I have definitely challenged way more often than I have been challenged.

Most challenged by me: notkenjennings 14 times, but since he's no longer a member, the next most challenged current member is surreyman 8 times.

Person who has challenged me the most: keebydog 4 times.

My stats are: 61 wins, 73 losses, and 39 stalemates. A lot of my losses, unfortunately, were from people with a faster connection speed than mine. Oh well, it is only a game.

I love it when the silverbacks come to the fire to share their wisdom.

I'm famously not good with numbers, but I challenge more than I get challenged, and I win more than I lose. I've never thought to look at no steenkeen badges, I look at the answering percentage and speed to decide if I want to take a shot.

I've had multiples that swung both ways. I've had several showdowns, six or seven with some, met them and re-met them as we won or lost wagers on the way up, and some few I may yet meet again. Now that I'm maxed out on possible winnings just short of 215M, I usually don't challenge unless it will get me a position. With gaps between players above me in billions, it hardly seems worth bothering to burn a token for a couple measly hundred millions.

I must say, I've never seen receiving a challenge as being picked on. I see it as being invited to play, and being offered a chance to win a pile of points with no risk. Bring it.

SMOKE....If I didn't lose all my Showdowns
I'd probably agree with you - if I was smart
enough to understand what it was you said

I have had 90 showdowns to this point. Mostly ones challenged against me lately. I used to use mine up pretty regularly, but losing got old. My stats:

Wins - 38
Losses - 26
Stalemates - 26

The most times I have faced a person is SEVEN, against Trekee. He beat me six times, and I finally won on the seventh try. I have nearly 60 tokens that I haven't used, and probably won't anytime soon...unless I get to challenge Chick..then I might use one for fun....LOL

Aggressor is the appropriate word as far as I'm concerned. I've been challenged repeatedly by the same person. I have never challenged anyone because I think it's kind of a cheap way to get points. That's my personal opinion. I usually get the questions correct but never fast enough, even if it's within a couple of seconds.

I use a laptop and thus almost exclusively a touchpad and not a mouse. So the person who keeps challenging me has free reign to absorb as many points as he can because my finger sliding across a touchpad will never match his mouse.

If I was challenging the same person over and over and kept beating him, at some point I would have to stop. It just doesn't seem right, for me at least, to gain so many points that way. I've earned all of my points, except when I have won challenges put upon me, by taking quizzes, placing wagers, and scoring on Word Puzzles. If I thought the other person was losing challenges because of a slower connection or something like that, I just wouldn't feel right earning points that way.

I don't know. If there was a way to block challenges, I'd be thrilled. There's nothing about Showdowns that I find fun or earned.

Just my two centz.

49 showdowns so far, most initiated my me when I had less than a million points. I've still got about 35 tokens - don't use them any more. I'll still play if challenged though...

Won: 25
Stalemates: 12
Lost: 12

Only played against the same person twice - and that was usually a case of leapfrog me and I'll leapfrog right back!
(And I've just noticed those are pretty good stats! Well done me!)

The real question is: would the people that don't use their tokens start using them if the loss of points for being wrong was taken away?

Think about it, the person who is right quicker wins the points and the loser loses nothing.

noncentz has a good point or two.
But the counter-argument might be that the system puts showdowns in place so blame the system not the opponent!
Also I've lost challenges to dial-ups (DSL giveth and taketh away sometimes).
And you still have to get the questions right. Even the best of us err; even the top TQOTD people dont get 90% right every month.
I know Surreyman and noncentz are on dial-up and still win 1/4 or more of the challenges; that's not chopped liver.
Plus its free money if you only accept challenges and dont issue them - how bad can that be. I think the system works pretty well to accommodate everybody.
