Would anyone let me know of the specific pros and/or cons they experienced by switching to platinum membership FROM their gold membership? The yearly membership for platinum is > $51 than the gold.

Thanks - it's much appreciated,

For me it was 100% about supporting the site!

The server had crashed and we were without Sploofus for several days. There was some talk about the site folding due to lack of funding. Scared the poop out of me!

I can't afford to do it just to be supportive , so I was hoping to get the outlook of a number of different members for a gold - plat plan switch. Thanks, your input is still wanted, it's just that it lacks the specifics that I require to gauge my decision on. I'm quite happy w/gold, but I'm wondering if I would be even happier w/plat. Sometimes, though it's best to talk to people who were in the same circumstance.

Suzer, if you switched from gold, what made you glad, ecstatic, disappointed, or extremely disappointed that you did?
If someone wouldn't like to post it publicly, pls feel free to pm me. Either way, I want to hear from you.

I'm at gold. I began as a free member, but quickly went to gold so I could play more puzzles and quizzes, etc. I don't think it's available now but it's my understanding that possibly those who are at platinum level will be able to play more Word Puzzles (but maybe not for scores, I don't know that) per day. But the one thing I am looking forward to when I go platinum in December is the neat little picture (avatar) that shows up under your name when you post in chat. I don't know if you get a catalog of photos to choose from, or post your own or what happens, but it will be an improvement over the nondescript three little colored balls!

On a more serious note, I get so much fun from this site that I also want to support it financially. As long as I'm working, I can. When I'm retired, well.... maybe I'll win the lottery!

I can't afford platinum. I wish there was another in-between level. The jump in price to too much for me to justify at this time.

A month or so ago, I asked Justin to clarify the new terms of membership, which he did, but now I can't find the post. There were some changes that were of interest to me for when 2.0 comes out. If anyone can find that post, will you copy & paste the forthcoming changes into this thread?

I started off as Gold so I could do 10 tries per hour on Word Round and Word Match and to do two Word Puzzles per day. Then I became addicted to WR and WM and decided to go platinum to do unlimited WR and WM each hour. Of course being able to upload droll cat with green apple helmet avatar was just a plus.

Thank you to everyone who's spoken up so far.
Pepper, the first time I saw that, tickled me to death. The only thing that came to mind was that you had carved up a small watermelon, dried the inside, & decided to torture your cat! He/She doesn't look amused. I've never had a cat that w/d wear anything.
I used to have a male cat who would let these two female sisters nurse. He would also eat anything I ate, including salad, even the fresh mushrooms. If Devin saw me eat it, he w/d eat it. I'll try to remember to post the pic on my profile.

I think I might like options such as: different fonts & colors for profile; being able to make a few folders for pm's w/ability to move msgs any place/folder/box I want them; being able to move pm's somewhere else besides the trash if I put them in the saved folder; room for a few more pics to upload on profile; the increased options to play WMs, WRs, & WPs, for the usual points; at least 2 options to how long I'll stay logged in, if I get pulled away from Sploofus; upon registering-being able to enter the username with capital letters where I want them to be displayed (when I created my username I wanted more characters); maybe one WR, WM, etc a day where only paying members get to play for points, or only platinum members play against ea other, or the same concept with regards to gold members;

The showdown challenger being able to pick the question category gives them way too much of an advantage. The challengee may not lose points but it still reflects in their victory %'s - {if that's the only option, I w/d take it} -> but I think it s/d be evened out more by being able to: pick 4 categories to randomly get the showdown question from or pick 4 categories that you don't want to get the showdown question from; a different clue for all 5 puzzles (like gold members are already supposed to get, but don't always get ); oh yeah, & to actually get the e-mail notices of replies to my threads when I check the appropriate box;...

I do love my gold membership but like I said before, I'm wondering if I'll be even more impressed with another option.

What do you mean "a different clue for each of the 5 puzzles" that Gold memebers
are supposed to get????
I agree with almost all the rest....except I'm afraid I'd become glued to the chair
and my eyes stick to the screen if we got all those things. I'd never have time to walk my dog, or respond to mail from my non-sploofusing friends. I'm supposed to move house soon....what if I stay here and play all day....the new owners might get upset!!!!
Perhaps I can pay them rent....oh many choices to make....
Think I'll stay with Gold for now, because it limits me.....I can resist anything except temptation!!!!

Rowlanda, I thought for sure, or maybe I'm confused in the head again , that one of the perks of gold/plat membership was that:
·► when playing word puzzles the clue for ea of the 5 puzzles would be something different - instead of the same clue for all 5 like, they give for the free silver memberships

Thank you Marilyn, that does shed more light on the subject.

Each Word Puzzle comes with only one clue, and everyone who sees that puzzle gets the same clue. On some WPs, all the puzzles have the same clue, while on others they don't. It has nothing to do with membership level.

The only difference is that paid members get to do every WP.

I had heard complaints by a friend that there was only 1 clue for all 5 puzzles. I told him that he was playing me, that the puzzle that day had a different clue for ea one. When he took another one in the next week, I was there for the proof that he wasn't pulling one over on me. He wasn't. The only obvious difference in our memberships is that he doesn't pay and I do. We both use IE. I asked about the next two puzzles - he said the same thing, & I told him when I played I had 5 separate clues.
After that I apologized for telling him that he wasn't being accurate, & told him if it bothered him that much, he s/d ask about it or stop playing WP's.

Hi Nsinuosblufyxn....
You forgot to add your new name...."Bunny"
Randy and I keep trying to tell the P-T-B
We want different clues for each part of the WP....
Doesn't always happen....

Perhaps, one word clues will become all the rage, soon. Hmm, sooner or later?

I want to assure everyone that there is no difference in WP clues based on membership. Each WP has 10 phrases and each phrase has it's own "hint". Sometimes the editor authoring a WP puts the same thing in as each hint, sometimes they are are each different, sometimes there are only 2 or 3 different unique hints.

Each member who plays the WP gets a random 5 out of 10 puzzle phrases. It is therefore possible that you might have 5 with different clues while your friend had 5 with clues that were all the same within the same WP. But there is absolutely no plan for this to occur and it is certainly not a perk for paying members.

Like Suzer, I went from Gold to Platinum just to help support the site. Right now, the differences between Gold and Platinum membership are minor. While it is cute to have my bird up there, it sure isn't necessary, and I rarely do WM or WR anymore anyway, so I don't need to have unlimited possibilities.

BUT - I do remember reading somewhere that when 2.0 rolls around there will be some additional differences between Gold and Platinum memberships.

Oh - and the reason I went Gold in the first place was the WordPuzzles. I am a total addict.
